Gear your study towards the essay questions in the exam papers, a lot of textbook information is surplus.Focus on a specific essay title and plan an essay with intro and conclusion with about 6 to 7 paragraphs in between, with enough detail, to score a high cumulative mark.Ensure there is a reference to the question asked in each paragraphs to maintaina steady rise in your overall mark. Lay your essay plans out as follows:

For example how did the Government of Ireland consolidate democracy between 1923 and 1945?

Intro-War of independence and civil war
    Cumann na ngaedheal and Administration
    Law and Order
    Army Mutiny
Asserting independence - Registration of treaty with league of nations-
    Handing over power
    Fascism in Ireland
    Overcoming Ira Threat
Conclusion - Confirmation of Collins theory regarding treaty posing stepping stone to independence.

Make a sentence from the first letter off each part of the essay. For example for this essay:
My one for this is a bit explicit but you get the drift!

Other than study it's important to have an interest, it makes everything easier. We are told to try write around 12 paragraphs, about 3 per page. Spread out the information you could include in 7 paragraphs into more, and you'll accumulate marks easier

The way I study is just make flashcards, then pick a question randomly and try to reproduce it. Time managment is huuuge. I still can't handle that, it was a tough lesson from Christmas tests. 2 really good essays effed up by the last one.
