Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Those parts that ye linked is where I'm having a problem with.
I think they are for the later xt660z engine which is different to my xtz660.

Whether some of the parts are the same or not I can't tell.

You can tell what is identical from comparing the part numbers. Let's try again:

Without seeing them back to back, the closely matching numbers - prefixes 3YF > 4SU > 5LP - are possibly just a change in material or minor feature (such as case ribbing) that wouldn't stop it being changed completely.

But the shaft is prefixed 3YF and the dowel pin hasn't changed number, and the engine-driven gear and circlip is identical, so that points to no change in the diameter of the impeller shaft.

I don't seem to have that in my pump from what I see.

That's one part of the two-part water pump seal assembly 11H-12438-10 (number 9 on the list - green arrow)

Thanks Mac, it would be great if they are a match as that set is widely available and I had been checking it out already.
The seal with the white inner seems to have a diameter of 25mm whereas my old seal is 20-21mm.
However I'm not too concerned about that seal as already pointed out by one of the lads I can pick up one somewhere.
Also I think it's the same seal that Yamaha use on the gear shifter shaft of several 125's.

I suppose the mechanical seal is worth a shot and hope for the best that it fits.
I'm just wary as it's not listed as a part for gen 1 XTZ660 anywhere.
Now, is that because is was only available one time as part of the whole pump or because it doesn't fit,I don't know.

So an update on my bike, not as bad as I thought some of things I knew about and some I didn't.

    Needs replacing:

Front Tyre (was planning to do this)
Front/Rear pads (had a set ready to go)
    Fork seals at the front
Left handlebar is bent and will need replacing

Apart from that its OK, the handlebars may be tricky to get from Honda but the chap said if I get secondhand ones he will fit them. Once all the above is done he will give me a cert.

Try a few bike breakers, one of them is bound to have the handlebars. That aside the rest is just consumables from the sounds of it.

Those mechanical seals are similar to the Honda Polo Mint ones, just make sure you use non-silicate coolant in it afterwards, the silicate type eats the ceramic seals.

Rockoil Kool XL is non silicate as is Honda Type 2 blue coolant (car)
Lots of coolant has silicate and will lead to the problems you had.

FFS, I've just copped that the seal with the white on it was still stuck in the propeller
    shown below.
Didn't spot it as it was oily and dirty.
So that's the ceramic part
Makes sense to me now :pac:

That mechanical water pump seal is expensive as is the oil seal.

Even an aftermarket kit is only £44.10 plus post.

They are saying they have no parcel for me.
    €170 worth

After weeks of zero assistance from DPD through emails and phone, I ask them on twitter yesterday could they locate my package.

Today started to try to work on my bike. (Complete novice on working on bikes) I’ve been trying to diagnose my bikes issues as a new biker using the Haynes manual so my bike is cutting out as I’m entering roundabouts (strange I know). It feels like it does when the kickstand is down and goes into gear it just cuts out. Riding fine for ages and on the way back from trips. Dunno if it’s me approaching roundabouts or the kickstand sensor is the issue. I’ve been riding about 5 months now and is only an issue in the last say month. Any advice? I disconnected the side stand switch but bike still cut out when I put it into gear with the kick stand down. 125 cc Suzuki Marauder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 657 ✭✭✭flashinthepan

My bike has a vehicle down sensor that kills the engine / fuel if it falls over
And it works :-) I tested it by falling off

Not sure if the marauder has one ? maybe a bit of googling will tell

Does the FI light com on when it cuts out?

    What year? is the bike

I would prob think the terminals of the plug would need to be bridged rather than just unplugging the switch
It is prob looking for continuity across the terminals but i'm not familiar with that
    model
Bit more googling might be in order

I’ve just watched a YouTube video and I understand you bridging comment too I’ll try that one the weather is clear, I’ll let you know how I get on, it’s literally bypassing the kickstand switch.

Worth a try for a short period
But get it replaced if it is faulty ( suicide stand )

Anyone used PJ1 Fast Black for tidying up black frames? I don't have much to do at all, just a niggly bit that I've seen whilst doing some ACF50 bits and now can't unsee.

Side note, got new tyres last week from the folks in Sprocket and Hub in Adare, Pilot Road 5. Fantastic!

Have used it and if petrol or brake cleaner touch it it washes off. Old pjfb was pulled from shelves about 10yrs ago (carcinogenic) and was petrol resistant.

Well I finally got around to buying some Hammerite smooth sliver and Special Metals Primer (both with brush application) but the prospect of a cold shed, hours of effort, and a still imperfect finish is losing its appeal

Some recommendations in the Dublin area where I can get fork lowers blasted and powder coated? What sort of money am I looking at? Thanks.

What did you use Listermint and what prep did you do? I looked at the spray Hammerite smooth but the coverage per can was crazy, 0.4 sq m per can per coat and you'd need two or three coats so the cost escalates rapidly to the point where I'd wonder why I'm doing it myself.

    Scrap the cap!

It's not that bad tbh and is well doable in a couple hrs work over a period of time.
Sand/wire wool or whatever takes your fancy in terms of prep.
    Use brake cleaner to degrease.
    Primer.
Heat can in warm water and while you're waiting use a hair dryer on them fork lowers.
Dust coat of primer, thicker coat 15 min later and another a couple hrs after.

Leave for a day and lightly sand with 1000 grit wet and dry. Brake cleaner.
Heat can and lowers and repeat above steps with paint.
Wait a week and spray lacquer as above, two or three coats.
Here's the lowers on my red Dr done the same way I did the on the blue dr 11 yrs back and both are grand.

    Looks good.

I've got 30 quid invested in brush-on paint though :pac:

    Scrap the cap!

Installed mine that way initially then thought to myself I can't reach that with hand on bar and I can also see the bolts.

Took it off bent the plate back the other way and refitted. The controller now covers the bolts and is lower so directly parallel with the bar. Can change it with my thumb easily. And can't see the bolts anymore

Sounds like a good Idea alright to hide the bolts :-)

Job done right on the wawa pump fair play.
You get the tyres from crossans? If so what's the craic with additional charges n sh1t?! I'm feckin feeling stranded about buying stuff for the bikes tbh, all my stuff came from UK mostly and with the charges and parcel motel all being fukt up I'm stalled.

No charges yet as I ordered on the 30th Dec.
There shouldn't be any charge from the north anyway I think.

Tyres from Crossan's, battery from Motorcycle shop and coolant from JK Moto.

I usually get my tyres from oponeo but they can be a bit slower to arrive.

I've gotten stuff from here as well.
    Great prices on some items.

If that's the case with the North I'd be delighted, I'm a creature of habit and like crossans. Not used caprimoto before as most of the things I get are usually second hand, I sound like a womble.
Prob have to buy from ebay.de, cue excessive prices/delivery charges and couriers never being able to find the gaf lol. Woe is me:o
I have a lot of jobs to sort in the garage and at the mo I'm just like ehhhhhyeaaaah:rolleyes:
