Has anyone had their orthodontic treatment in Dublin? I am looking in to getting braces but want to go with an orthodontist that will do a good job. I can't find any reviews online about orthodontics. If anyone knows anything about them would love if you could share!

Best to ask mums and dads inher school where their children got theirs, that's the best recommendation.

Bingo. The cost of travel and days off usually negates any saving traveling long distances. All orthodontists offer payment plans. Best chooses nice one close to your daughterss schoolso she can go herself after school for wire changes.

ok - so ive just joined boards tonight for some advice from others who have gone through this process - not being funny but Moderator you are telling me stuff I know already and are not being the least bit helpful - in fact you are slightly patronising - Id really just like some advice over the next few days from anyone who has the time to let me know how they got on - thanks.

I am not trying to be patronising, however you not really listening to anything that doesnt suit you.

    1. You child needs braces. You have been to several specialist orthodontists and they all think that its upper and lower that is needed, they all estimate around 3.5-4k.
    2. You yourself think only upper is needed despite this advice from multiple places, the teeth upper and lower meet when biting, often if you only treat the upper the bite is totally wrong and it tends to relapse.
    3. You want recommendation from others and prices. What somebody else paid for their braces is only applicable to them and has no bearing on your child's braces. If somebody paid 1600 for 6 month braces in a place, you will rock up an still get a quote for 3.5-4k.
    4. Recommendations you will get will often be shills or people making recommendation for places far away from you. This wastes your time.
    5. I know (being a dentist) that with possibly 20 visits needed for a course of braces that one of the most important things is geographic access. If you have to take a half day off work, take you kid out of school and put petrol in the car to save 500 euro, its actually works out more expensive, although it will seem like a good idea at the time. We have had so many people some on saying they saved money, but on inspection they actually paid more and greatly inconvenienced themselves.
    6. Six month braces, and invasalign etc are not suitable for a growing child and are limited results braces mostly for adults.
    7. You received recommendations from your friends, I wound not expect a better recommendation from and anonymous internet person.
    8. Sometimes a service costs a certain amount give or take as you have found ( a 1k variance in price is large enough to prove competition is well and healthy). You are not going to find somebody that will do a good job and charge you half as much, I am sorry but that the truth. You will find somebody that will do half the job for half the price but that is a disservice to your child. You have one chance to take advantage of the growth phase.
    9. Check out the orthodontic society of Ireland website for a list of orthodontist near you. Some general dentist do braces also although fees are broadly similar.
    10. All orthodontists allow spread payment. 3.5k over 3 years is around 97 euro a month, that makes it a bit less of a sting. Its tax allowable at 20% also, meaning the total cost is 2800 euro.
    12. I hope you get the answer your looking for.
    13. I know half a dozen very good orthodontists in Dublin South, all of which do consistently excellent work which I have seen over the years, I also had my own braces done in South Dublin as a child. What they charge is going to be similar to you own quotes already. If you want a recommendation from me, you can PM me.

Ok - so saying you were a dentist to start with would have been a good thing ! Thanks for your advice and for the trouble you have taken to write what you wrote and you do make sense. Thanks - I might PM you to find out some other names of orthodontists as I have not committed yet and I just felt it best to get a couple of opinions - I have only seen 1 but I did like him. :)
