Welcome Wayne. We've also had Haddy Parrington join us this week so we've 42 on board now.

Plenty of time still for others to join..

Out of interest how do you guys select your team?

I look at guys who have been in form the last few weeks (never pick the winner from the previous week) don't really worry about the course, i.e long course pick long hitters etc.
For me it's recent form, and who did well in the event last year tbh. Also take tips from local golf pro who I play poker with.

Oh and obviously I look at odds.

I do the same with looking at last years event, and who is in form. The course does have an impact cause some players just don't fair well on certain courses and others might always do well on particular courses. That is where last years results come in for me.
Also look at the betting, who is favourite etc.

Ah it's not too late, it's the big money events you need to get right.

Sterne off to another stormer, guess everyone has him though!

Have a look at the overall leader's team. She has Sterne & a German who Ive never heard of (both leading this week):eek::eek:. Where did she come up with that I'ld love to know. Didnt see the German tipped anywhere..

And while I'm at it terrible to see Nick Dougherty struggling so badly. 2 doubles in a row today.

Agree however I'm sure the €6m ET winning helps cushion the blow :)

I was mildly curious about prizemoney on offer this week but ET website has no info (normally posted under EVENT INFO). Anyways I went to the official Joburg website to find the following posted...

    Prize money breakdown

The prize money breakdown will be released on Monday 11th February 2013.

The prize money is 1.3 million euros and this will be shared amongst all the players who will make the cut.

The Joburg Open is the highest paying tournament in South Africa.

    Hmmm...curious isn't it.

I assume there is a cut at the Joburh Open? I don't see anything on the ET website showing what the cut mark is.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,268 Mod ✭✭✭✭charlieIRL

I think the cut is -4

Lost four of mine so, as will most others... 70% have Grace!

Do have Sterne, Coetzee and Charl, but again so does everyone.

    Non event this week.

I noticed that. I'm gonna look at her team next week before I pick mine :)

    Game Data > Player Popularity

Interesting to see 22% have McIlroy, 18% have Manassero, 17% have Garcia, Rose, Kaymer all who aren't playing. With the unlimited changes now available, no excuse to have non-players in your team if you are anyway interested in the game.

My English lads let me down even though looks like Willett is injured. Everyone will have the same Saffa's so little chance of improving this week.......

Agree -but the strategy emerging seems to be - have the Top 7/8 and differentiate on 2 or 3. You have to follow the pack mainly but need to seperate on a couple of hunches.
....or am I losing the plot entirely!!

That's what I've tried to do.
One of my outsiders is still in with a shout, Gagli sitting at -12.
I know who I'll be shouting for tomorrow.

I wouldn't say you are too far off the mark. That's what I have been doing so far. Might change and go for more 'outsiders' in the majors and WGCs to try and make up places.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭Beaulieu

Had another look at last weeks overall leader -she left Branden Grace off her team!! How the hell did she figure that one out?? 7 SA's in top 10..not bad (wish I had more of them though!). Guess nearly everyone had Sterne though.
Judging by the lack of prize fund info on the ET site it'll be some time before this weeks results are updated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 dublindan13

Not much will change this week obviously. Made $497,353 in prize money this week from Schwartzel, Sterne, Mulroy, Kruger, Aiken and Coetzee. Moves me on to $2,032,136. :)

Another not so great tournament next week, but WGC Accenture Matchplay Championships the week after, looking forward to that one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭Beaulieu

Congrats to Dan Lewis whose OnnywaytoDubai leads with €2.031m. Dan is now 224th in the overall game out of something like 15000 teams.

PaulosCork and Niall Shanahan are 2nd & 3rd overall with €1.835m and €1.826m respectively.

This weeks winner was Aj's with Aj's sliders who won € 630.7k and came 160th place this week in the overall game.

2 more entrants to Boards.ie fantasy league for next week -brings total upto 42 now!

Another ho-hum event next week but then WGC matchplay which will blow everything apart:D:D.

5 minutes before the first tee time I think. However could be getting confused with the PGA one I'm doing as well.

I got an email today telling me that its 4.45am GMT on Thursday 14th Feb. Not sure is that because I'm the administrator or did everyone get one.

Can't believe I picked Da Silva. I only hope he doesn't bottle it over the weekend and can go wire to wire!

I think if I had an outright bet on him I would cash out at this stage!

He's having a nightmare on the 8th. Looks like triple B.

Anyone know what the format is for this week? Do you just pick 10 players as usual.

Yep that's it. Look at the draw though and how it is laid out. I find it best to pick the winner for every match all the way to the final, then your choice is more or less made! Having said that I will probably make a haims of it this week!!

Last week was a gud un though, I topped the Boards league for the week and moved up a few places.. this is the week it counts though! :(

Congrats (again) to Dan Lewis' OnnywaytoDubai who retains the lead with €2.42m. Dan is now 81st in the overall game out of something like 16000 teams.

PaulosCork and Colm Burke are 2nd & 3rd overall with €2.2m and €2.17m respectively.

This weeks winner was Stephen O'Brien who won € 392.9k and came 334th place this week in the overall game.

We only need 2 more to make 50 entrants in the boards.ie league.

..(Jaws theme music playing) BIG week this week -WGC Matchplay with mega bucks on offer.
Losing semifinalists alone will earn the guts of US$500k.:eek:

Don't forget to make your team changes by Wednesday as it starts then.

Handy site to do your permutations is http://fantasy.golfchannel.com/default.aspx

You need though to register first.

Is anyone having issues with site.... When trying to pick a team for this week I can only see 3 US players. No Tiger or Hunter Mahan available for selection.

Not the first time I've seen this issue.

They aren't members of the European tour so that's why you can't see or pick them

Tiger Woods was available for selection for the first tournament. I remember slotting him in and then he missed the cut along with Rory.

What happens when the Majors or other premium tournaments are scheduled.

Majors and World Golf Championships are Co-Sanctioned events, meaning they are official tournaments on both PGA and European tours. So therefore it's the same. You can only pick members of the European Tour no matter what the event. I have to disagree with you though about Tiger being available for the Abu Dahbi tournament, I don't think he was.

However it is possible to get a member of the European Tour to drop out later on in the year. They have to commit to playing 12 (I think) events to be a member of the Tour. If they change their schedule later in the year to play less events, they can drop out.

I don't think Tiger did that, he has never ever been a member of the European Tour.
