Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Excellent spot!

I have this myself, actually the 230 which has the additional GPS which is a bit of a gimmick in some ways.

The picture quality is excellent under so many conditions, it has so many settings that give you a range of ideas and plenty of scope to advaNce your photography knowledge like full manual if you wish. But there's also full auto and everything in between.

The video is very high quality, but no gopro.

Here is a video I made entirely with this camera. You can put the quality settings up on YouTube to give you a better idea

One purple one in stock in both Dundrum and Tallaght (and in some non-Dublin locations).

No grey in any Dublin shop, a few in non-Dublin locations.

Same as that, was going to have a stab at installing chdk it but have not figured out how to check the firmware version of the camera yet.

Had great fun playing around with the different effects though, Hard to take a bad shot with this camera as well.

I bought an SX230 for the wife for Christmas.

CHDK was my reason for picking it!

    To get the firmware version:
"Manually - just create empty file ver.req on SD card

Power on in PLAY mode with ver.req file on SD card, press and hold FUNCSET, press DISP. reveals the firmware version"

Best thing about CHDK is that it doesn't install, it runs on top of the factory firmware from the sd so no warranty issues and only running when you need it

I'm a little slow, what can you do with the chdk? Are you guys going to send balloons into space like the guy in the nytimes article or is there more practical uses? Sorry for the basic question but I don't see the obvious benefits here

I have CHDK installed on a a710 and it improves movie quality and control, you can also run scripts (motion detection, time lapse etc), show histogram, enables raw capture...

Total guess, but I'd say if GPS functionality was possible it would have been hacked by now.

i have this camera and lumped it around asia for a couple of months.

some of the pics and video are amazing.

    well worth the money.

looks like there are still a few available guess its just a case of keeping an eye as people have probably reserved them and not collected it.

Thanks for telling me about CHDK guys. Its actually really useful.

the timelapse feature is fantastic and gives great results before and after sunsets.

Its on amazon for 122 Sterling but its seems to have finished with Argos altogether now

Heres another video too, all shot on the canon sx 230 hs

    Have been looking at these.

    Couple left:

    http://www.checkargos.com/StockCheckPage.php?productId=5594425

The SX230 (same camera with GPS) is €124 at dixonstravel (Dublin airport) and €129 in dixons (Liffey Valley).

I just can't bring myself to buy because of reports of poor battery life.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 brendanmch

I found the battery life ok. Not amazing or anything, but I wouldn't see it as a problem myself, unless you use the GPS all the time.

I have a htc desire HD, which needs charging every 1.5 days, so I guess I'm used to having to charge things though, but that only happens on holidays with the camera for me.
