Great appointment, I think he either suited Manchester United or Bayern

Let's see him prove his managerial credentials without three of the best players of modern times (Messi, Xavi and Iniesta) in his ranks.

Good place for him to go.

Not like he's managing Mainz though. He has the best squad in Germany to choose from(imo) and one of the best squads in Europe.

Yeah, managing the journey men at Bayern will be a real challenge

Van Chaaaal didn't speak German either :pac:

A very interesting match. He'll have a lot more work to do at Bayern than he did at Barca, that's for certain. It's great for German football as well.

With the club that got to the Champions League final last season..

If so, good to see he has moved from club where there is incredible pressure on new managers...to a notoriously calm, patient and reticent club like Munich :pac:

Interesting if he tries to eke out some of the second string at Barcelona to come along that he was introducing in the last couple of years...the Tello/Cuencas/Sergi Robertos etc.

Glad he's not coming to City, ends all those annoying stories.

Not surprising him opting for the Bundesliga.

I can see Thiago going there.

Pep is intelligent enough to stay away from the PL and British media.

Already heard one presenter saying he bottled it not coming to England.

He seems to be someone more interested in Football than money fair play to him and best of luck to him. He is taking over at a great team.

The pressure at Bayern is massive. Probabaly up there with real madrid

Yeah, it's not a club where he will given a lot of time, he will be expected to hit the ground running. Will be interesting to see how it works out.

Aren't bayern already well ahead in ye bundesliga? Wonder how their manager feels about it, then again no shame in bowing out to pep.

Should be an interesting season next so

if you don't think, if successful in Germany, that he won't be coming to England, you're naive.

Interesting. I didnt think he would be going to Germany. Clearly all Roman's rubles wasnt enough to get him to England.

It would appear that this was about football purely. I wonder were Barca ever in the mix? Would he/they want him to go back?

Massive, but fair. The English media are absolute ar*eholes.

Good appointment for them and for the league to bring in a top manager, it has been nothing but talk about the top managers in the Bundesliga leaving the last few years.

Heynckes was never signing a new deal, been talking about replacements for almost a year now.

If reports are to be believed, then 3 clubs will be very hurt by this decision. Milan, Chelsea and to a lesser extent perhaps, City.

Bad news for Chelsea fans..... Rafa could be kept on !!!!! :pac:

Jupp Henynckes is retiring at the end of the season.

He doesn't speak German, does he?

German clubs force new players and managers to take German classes ;)

Brilliant move for both parties imo.

Bayern get a top coach and Guardiola gets a club with stability.

I never said he wouldn't come to England. But not coming to England now was a very good choice for him.

Pressure yes of course that is expected.

But media pressure in England is a lot worse and not needed.

I think, they introduced them courses, after Trap was in charge of Bayern :D

Good move for both parties I would have thought.

Spare a thought for Jupp Heynckes though. A great manager in his own right.

He's retiring at the end of the season, told owners over winter break this.

Pep could very well be taking over from the European champions, no team has impressed me more than them this season, but a very sensible choice by him either way.

He doesn't speak German, does he?

He's already fluent in 3 languages, I suspect German won't be a problem to him. Probably be up to an adequate standard between now and June.

Heynkes is 67 and was leaning towards retiring anyhow so hes seemingly not fussed about another few years that would bring him towards his 70th birthday.

    Which ones?

I'm assuming Spanish, Italian and English?

Should have worded my post differently.

What I mean is that while it is understandable that everyone will concentrate on Guardiola, one of the better managers in European football is retiring and part of the reaction should be celebrating a brilliant career.

I heard the news and the first word that came to mind was sensible.

Three year contract, the man is 41, you think he'll be too old to move to the EPL at 44? Or even 54?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,424 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

    Wise move IMO

Pep will end up in england one day if he is a success at bayern. He has said he wants to manage there someday.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,805 ✭✭✭Lennonist

Smart move from Guardiola, the speculation in England was mainly about Chelsea. Going to Chelsea would ultimately end in chaos and failure for him. Look at what happened to Mourinho, Ancelotti and others when they were there.

would have loved him in the premiership.

i hope he gets the best out of robben n ribery.

Lots of praise for Guardiola for his decision to go to Germany .... but really you have to admire Bayern for getting their business done early. Current manager set to leave in the summer, so they go a get probably the most sought after manager currently available.
