Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So whos the top candidate? Cole?

Strange I was thinking Nicky, Flo or Alex only because they left pretty soon afterwards. Could be Ash just as easy I guess.

A Utd or Liverpool thread, depending on what happened at the weekend would be done in half that time. :pac:

Also theres alot more Utd/Pool fans on boards anyway so theres more discussion in thsoe threads from more users.

We'll drive on away mad anyway.

Forgot about Anelka and Alex actually.

TBh it could have been a few players alright, Malouda could be front runner but in Carlos 1st season he was very good.

    I'd say it was Malouda.

did Anelka and Alex not go during the AVB tenure?

They did as they were demoted to the under 21 or reserve team. Real shame as Alex was a great defender.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Ya it was a shame that Anelka wasnt around to pick up a UCL medal with us, he deserved one IMO.

Carlo says the player he wanted to kill had a "history of misdemeanours".

    http://metro.co.uk/2013/11/25/carlo-ancelotti-i-tried-to-kill-chelsea-player-4201317/

That description could put even JT in frame. Love Carlo's facility with the English language over the incident:

"One player didn’t show respect and I tried to kill him but it wasn’t possible. The player is the property of the club and sometimes you cannot do what you want."

After Joses sacking, Carlos was the most ridicolous.

It was a joke he was sacked, we beat Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool home and away in his title winning season.

His team was ripped apart the summer we won the double. I think he did a totally exceptional job getting that side to second place, had he been backed properly he would have been more popular than Jose by now. But the powers that be only had eyes for Pepe by that time.

What was worse than sacking him was the manner in which it was done, totally disgraceful behaviour towards a gentleman and a fantastic manager. I have been a Chelsea supporter for a very long time and for me that was one of our most despicable actions, it was actually shameful.

What team we reckon will start tonight?

I'm assuming with Joses war cry of making sure we win it will be out strongest XI and wont change much from the West Ham game.

    I'm going to suggest

    Cech
    Ivan Cahill JT Azp
    Mikel Ramires
    Schurrle Oscar Hazard
    Eto'o

go back to 4-2-3-1 and bring in Schurrle for some direct pace, we could easily go unchanged and I'd be happyenough if we put in a similar display but basel will be a level or two above West Ham without a CF.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,603 ✭✭✭grumpymunster

I think if fit Torres will get a run and Eto'o a rest, other than that would say that will be the side right enough

    agreed

I wouldnt mind Torres playing, he'll be raring to go as those 2 weeks off stiffled any kind of progress it looked like he was making.

A goal or two tonight will bring him back on track.

Jose piling the pressure on Basel.
"They are under pressure and we are not. We can finish the job to qualify and Basel, even if they win, have to play a last final at Gelsenkirchen.

"For them, the situation is difficult. This shows clearly that, after the first match, we did our job and they didn't do theirs

Have to agree with him, losing the 1st game at the Bridge was a blessing in disguise for the UCL campaign at least, it spurred us on to 2 away victories and beating Schalke at home.

That goal against Basel is the only one we've left in this years UCL.

    Chelsea 4/5 tonight, some odds!

Would like to see Torres get minutes seeing as Eto'o played at the weekend.

This is a difficult fixture, but one we should really be winning..

I was tempted to put them in alright, given Basel need a win also to keep any hopes alive it should see us given opportunity to counter.

Was it last years Europa League game when Azp gave away a soft penalty onyl for Luiz to score a free kick in the dying minutes to win it.

Cech; Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta; Ramires, Mikel, Lampard; Willian, Oscar Eto'o.

Subs: Schwarzer, Cole, Mata, Hazard, De Bruyne, Schurrle, Torres.

    Bye bye Mata.

Chelsea tv reporting that we will play 4 3 3

I'd say you can sing that.
Such a shame too, I know Oscar is there but, at the same time, criminal to have Mata frozen out the way he has been.
If he goes, it could be something that will haunt the Blues.

The manner in which they go about getting a point says it all though.
Been pretty terrible from what I've seen. No bite in their play.

    What a terrible 10mins.

One of Mikel or Lamps need to be whipped for an attacking player, Schurrle or Hazard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Missed the first half. Sounds like I didn't miss much other than a few near-heart attacks.

Have to admire Basel's defence so far.
