We'll finish above Arsenal and Liverpool, from our games against City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs we're unbeating currently.

The only team we've lost to in and around us was Utd and that was a terrible game to lose for different reasons.

Our problem this year is against the "lesser£ teams, which is the polar opposite of last year when we'd wipe the floor with the lowwer half teams and bottle it when it came to the bigger games.

    :(

From last nights game, Oscar played some lovely passes or attempted passes when players were making runs for him, Luiz was ok, he should be back for Wigan which is the main part, Lamps had a decent half and took his goal well.

Cahill's mistake was typical of how hes performed for us for the last couple of games, hes been sloppy and little mistakes have crept into his game, althugh he should have scored froma corner hadnt Luiz been ripping the shirt off his back. :pac:

Hazard scored a penalty, ddint see any highlights but hes back from his ban and should be ready to go.

from the daily mirror this morning

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is trying to set up a cut-price deal for the next big star of Brazilian football.

The Blues are watching Santos sensation Neilton, who made headlines by scoring a hat-trick against Palmeiras in the semi-finals of the Copa Sao Paulo Under-19s' tournament.

It is believed there is a £5million buy-out clause in the 19-year-old's contract, and Santos are now trying to renegotiate the deal to stop him escaping on the cheap.

European champions Chelsea and Manchester United are closely watching developments with a player already dubbed the "new Neymar" in Brazil.

Abramovich previously became embroiled in a bidding war for superstar Neymar, who is now tipped to go to Barcelona.

On that subject Neymar wasnt at his best last night at all and missed a good chance, which is weird as he is usually very good for Brazil.

watched most of the ireland game but when i did switch over, oscar looked great in a slightly deeper role for brazil, his passing was excellent

Ya Oscar looked more at home operating in the centre of the pitch, England at timss struggled to get near him, he had options on the wings at all time, either Adriano or Alves from full backs or the runs from outside to in by the wide men/forwards.

Given some time he could develop into a good deep lying playmaker, a Xavi or Pirlo type, now I'm not suggesting he'll be at their level but he has qualities that could see him excel there, passing, vision, calmness on the ball, able to dictate the tempo.

He'd be best served to play along side Luiz or Mikel in there though if it was to work.

It could leave room for Moses to operate on the right and Mata through the middle.

The EPL could be bringing in their own version of the FFP.

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/chelsea-set-to-back-financial-fair-play-deal-221938.html
The Blues had been viewed as being opposed to financial fair play (FFP) but it is understood they will agree to a system that obliges clubs to break even but allows owners to cover some losses.

Insiders at Stamford Bridge insist they have never been opposed to a compromise agreement, and that position should now ensure that both spending control systems are agreed today.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool will still argue that wealthy owners should not be allowed to underwrite any losses, but in order to push FFP through they will have to settle for a compromise where up to £105 million (€121.6m) over three years can be covered.

Opponents of a no-compromise FFP argue that the system maintains the status quo and favours the biggest clubs with large stadia and high commercial income. Four clubs — Manchester City, Fulham, West Brom and Aston Villa — are still expected to vote against it.

Chelsea’s backing of a compromise however should enable the necessary 14 out of the 20 votes to be reached.

The wage increase cap may also be watered down however — initially Sunderland owner Ellis Short had suggested a maximum 10% increase allowed for player wages. It now looks likely that the cap will only affect those clubs whose total bill is higher than £52m (€60.2m) so that promoted sides are not prevented from improving their squads.

Furthermore, spending money earned from clubs’ individual sponsorship deals on wages will not be restricted. That can be significant — in Manchester United’s case commercial income totalled £117.6m (€135m) last year and their wage bill £160m (€185m).

The Premier League’s expected FFP system would be less restrictive than Uefa’s, which is being brought in from next season and will oblige clubs to break even or face possible exclusion from European competition.

City away, Spurs home, Liverpool away & Utd away.

4 of our "toughest " games that we've left on paper.

We could beat all of the above and we could very easily lose all of them.

We've Spurs and Liverpool back to back which will be a key double header for us.

If we pick up 7 points from those games I'd be delighted.

Thats 4 games of 13 we have left.

    Our remaining fixtures are :

    Wigan Athletic H - 3
    Manchester City A - 0
    WBA H - 3
    Fulham A - 1
    West Ham Utd H -3
    Southampton A -3
    Sunderland H -3
    Tottenham H - 3
    Liverpool A - 1
    Swansea City H - 3
    Man Utd A - 0
    Aston Villa A - 3
    Everton H - 1

Total points I reckon we'll pick up in these games = 27.

If it's true then it's about time.

We've 13 league games, 1 guarnteed FA Cup game, 2 guarnteed EL games for Lamps to equal or better Tamblings record, which if he doesnt get a new deal I'd love for him to do.

He's still put in some good displays for us this season and popped up with some crucical goals at times.

We're short of good CM's so any new manager coming in will welcome the talent he has.

The only reason Lamps has got a prolonged stint in the team is Mikel going to the ACON and Romeu been out for the season and that Luiz has been played in both CM and CB positions this season.

With all those options coming back fit for next year with the inclusion of the loan players who can play CM, De Bruyne, MacEchran to name just two, Lamps will be rotated even more if he does get a contract and I cant see him kicking up much of a fuss or if he wanted to could say feck it I want more game time and go elsewhere.

off the asia for the holidays in the summer

Chelsea have announced they will play matches in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia on their 2013 pre-season tour.

The team toured Asia in 2011 ahead of the season in which they claimed the European Cup for the first time and the FA Cup.

The tour will see Chelsea play a Singha Thailand All-Star XI in the Singha Cup in Bangkok on July 17 before a clash with a Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur four days later.

The Blues then face an Indonesian X1 at Jakarta's 88,000-seater Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on July 25.

Chief executive Ron Gourlay told the club's official website: "It is fantastic that we will be returning to Asia for what promises to be an excellent pre-season tour.

"South-east Asia remains home to an ever-growing and passionate Chelsea FC support and it gives me great pleasure that we will again be able to experience that wonderful hospitality.

"In particular I look forward to visiting Indonesia for the first time, a country where we have an extensive fan base that is eager to see Chelsea play.

"I am sure we will face strong opposition in packed stadiums as we celebrate the successes of some of our important regional partners, and we will once again leave an important legacy in terms of the community work we conduct during the tour and for long afterwards."

It is unknown who will be managing the side during their tour, with Rafael Benitez's contract as interim boss ending at the close of the current season.

Was that the same tour when we beat Villa in some Barcaly's trophy thing, Torres managed to score...as in someone had a shot he stuck out a leg and it went passed Given. :D

Chelsea to back financial fair play deal

Chelsea are set to back both a wage increase cap and a compromise financial fair play deal at Thursday's showdown meeting of all 20 Premier League chairmen, it can be disclosed.

The Blues had been viewed as a hardline opponent of financial fair play (FFP), but Press Association Sport understands Chelsea will agree to a system that obliges clubs to break even but allows owners to cover some losses. The thawing of Chelsea's position should now ensure that both spending control systems are agreed on Thursday.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool will still argue that wealthy owners should not be allowed to underwrite any losses, but in order to push FFP through will have to settle for a compromise, where up to £105million over three years can be covered.
Opponents of FFP argue that the system maintains the status quo and favours the biggest clubs with large stadia and high commercial income. Four clubs - Manchester City, Fulham, West Brom and Aston Villa - are still expected to vote against it.
Chelsea's backing of a compromise, however, should enable the necessary 14 out of the 20 votes to be reached. The wage increase cap may also be watered down - initially Sunderland owner Ellis Short had suggested a maximum 10 per cent increase allowed for player wages.
It now looks likely that the cap will only affect those clubs whose total bill is higher than £52m so that promoted sides are not prevented from improving their squads. Furthermore, spending money earned from clubs' individual sponsorship deals on wages will not be restricted.
But some form of wage increase cap will satisfy club owners, who are fearful of the bulk of the income from next season's bumper new television rights deals - expected to be worth £25m-£30m per club - going straight into the pockets of the players and agents.
The Premier League's expected FFP system would be less restrictive than UEFA's, which is being brought in from next season and will oblige clubs to break even or face possible exclusion from European competition.
Under UEFA's system, for the first three years owners will be permitted to cover annual losses of up to £12million via equity but that will then be phased out.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool argue that tough FFP measures will maintain the Premier League's competitiveness and its attraction to a global TV audience, rather than risk a situation developing such as in Spain, where only two clubs dominate the football landscape.

If we can get a bigger ground this will not really affect us in the short term at least I expect.

Still think it is daft it keeps the big clubs big and the small clubs small, surprised QPR went with it as well.

You'd think a new manager would prefer to buy a new player than rely on Lampard though. I would have thought waiting until the summer when a new maanger comes in a letting him decide would have been the best thing. His goal-scoring record is still excellent but apart from that he is still a passenger in most games.

Agreed, we should be but consistency has killed us this year and it was the same last year to a degree but it was masked by the Fa cup and UCL victories.

The opposite end to that is would a new manager get free reign to say I want " X " and Roman going out getting him?

If its a one year deal then everyone is a winner really, and the fans will be a bit more onside with Roman.

Regardless of the younger lads coming back who've done well on loan I still think we'll go out and get another CM in the summer.

For a new ground, Battersea Power Station is gone, the Earls Court Centre development is gone. Where else is there in SW London?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

If we could re-develop Stamford Bridge it would be perfect although I cant see that happening and as mentioned the main sites we could potentially move to have been snapped up.

I think we do need to have a bigger stadium by about 7.5-10K to compete with the major European teams.

If our attendance was up around the 50K week in week out it would ease the burden of FFP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Just reading the bits on the Earl's Court site and the way the council are saying they dont want Chelsea or any club at Earl's court adn that we must saty at Stamford Bridge is good, but on the other hand there seems to be no way of further developing on site, none that makes sense, from a financial point of view.

On top of that I dont think the CPO will sell there shares unless they run into serious financial diffculty.

Every avenue most be seriously considered at this stage, nearly 10 years into Roman's tenure, I'm sure if there was a way to build up Stamford Bridge the best engineers and architects would have found it by now, one that doesnt effect the Tube station or the surronding area.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,603 ✭✭✭grumpymunster

Can't find it but read an interesting article the other day speculation why Chelsea changed their mind on FFP in the Premier league. Seemed to think we may be eying the site at White City but that would mean QPR would have to move from Shepherds Bush which given their severe ground limitations they could.
Was written by an Arsenal blog somewhere a bit out of left field but you never know.
If we want a bigger ground the probability is it will not be the Bridge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

White City wa mentioned a few times last when we were apparently after Battersea but it was reported that a ground on the Thames was more attractive even though the whole project would have cost an absolute bomb developing the site with a tube line and retail, commericial and residency units.

Does anyone know of any sites around White City that could be big enough for a 50-60K Football Stadium?
