Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well for Spurs and Newcastle who both started in the competition it can be seen as a good achievement , for us, not so much.

I say that as I think any team getting k/o'd of the UCL shouldnt fall into the latter stages of the EL but that's just me.

It's like 2 shots at Europe for the price of 1.

While we're in it we may as well take it seriously and at the quarter final stage we've a real chance of winning it.

Yeah i agree no team should be allowed to win something they werent involved in from the off its unfair to the other teams who were there from the start.

I always believe that no matter competition we are in we should be in it to win it so if we do win the Europa League then yeah it will be a good thing but in all fairness with the team we have we should be more competitive in the Champion League and not its weaker sibling.

This should be the season that wakes up the powers at the club, have them realise the way we are going is the wrong way its disheartening to see the club crumbling apart(maybe im being dramatic) we are a big club we should be fighting for the League, the CL, not 4th spot and not the EL, but hey giving the mess we are in any trophy will do.....even the Capital cup.

The capital cup would have been a start had Ivanovic decided not to have a nightmare 1st leg.

    :pac:

The little victories this year have been very good though, beating Arsenal twice, Spurs at the Lane.

Now all we got to do is beat Liverpool at Anfield, Utd at the Bridge and Spurs at the Bridge and I'll be delighted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭podge79

tbh I think we'll beat spurs with draws against utd and liverpool. I'm presuming that if we get to the fa cup semi that the league game against spurs will be switched to midweek (17th)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Ya if we beat Utd in the FA Cup there'll be more headaches for all invovled with games been re-scheduled.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭podge79

did you say we have a game against fulham to be re-scheduled as well? fecking hell

Yup Fulham away has to be re-scheduled. Was meant to be played last Sunday but the FA cup was penciled in for that due to our replay with Brentford that pushed back playing Utd.

UEFA have a knack of dragging things out longer then they should, just draw the foooooking teams and be done with it.

Happy enough to have avoided Lazio and Tottenham. Not sure this Chelsea team likes the cold too much and not sure that Rafa is positive enough in away matches in European games (which is nuts when you consider how important away goals are.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭podge79

long away journey for the 2nd leg especially with either an fa cup semi or the spurs game on the sun after

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,808 ✭✭✭Caveman1

Tough enough fixture but could be worse.

Hopefully we secure the tie after the 1st leg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,996 ✭✭✭Duck Soup

    From the Guardian today:
Chelsea's progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League condemns them to frantic cramming for the end of the campaign, with the FA Cup replay against Manchester United on 1 April meaning Chelsea must contest six matches in 16 days after next week's international break.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

Tough draw for Chelsea in terms of the travelling if nothing else - with all those fixtures piling up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,996 ✭✭✭Duck Soup

    Here's the fixture pile-up they're talking about.

We have West Ham at the Bridge on Sunday. Then a break, then...

30th March Southampton v Chelsea [Premier League]

1st April Chelsea v Manchester United [FA Cup]

4th April Chelsea v Rubin Kazan [Europa League]

6th April Chelsea v Sunderland [Premier League]

11th April Rubin Kazan v Chelsea [Europa League]

14th April Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur [Premier League]

I find this is a really handy page to keep bookmarked:

add in the possibility of an FA cup semi on the 14th instead of the spurs game and that shifting to the 17th and then liverpool on the 21st...

I'm a card-carrying Benitez fan, but I'm also partial to Rubin Kazan since Rovers played them...hmm..can both teams just draw..

Be interested to see how M'Vila plays - is he a regular there ?

If Rafa can pull us through this fixture list, get 4th and win one fo the 2 cups available he'll deserve a 100 times more credit then he'll actually get.

If the team can keep winning then the boo boys will be silenced a bit so its up to Rafa and the squad to pull it together for the last 2 months.

Seen on Sky sports news earlier that the game might be played in Moscow, I hate that plastic pitch and the memories of that stadium.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,996 ✭✭✭Duck Soup

With Southampton and Man U on consecutive days, he's going to have to play what is close to a second string team for one of them. Fans won't be too happy if we get tonked by Man U, but the most important focus should be securing the Champion's League qualification.

Maybe Lamps, Oscar and Torres for the Southampton game and Mikel, Hazard and Ba for the Man U game.

I'd nearly play the team that finsihed the Utd game at Old Trafford against them at the Bridge.

So team for Southampton would be

    Cech
    Ivan Cahill JT Bert
    Lamps Ramires
    Moses Oscar Marin
    Ba

    Team for Utd

    Cech
    Azp Cahill Luiz Cole
    Mikel Ramires
    Oscar Mata Hazard
    Torres

Rubin want to play the home leg in there ground which is over 500miles away from Moscow.

Moscow is already 1800Miles away from London so add another 500Miles we're talking a return trip of potetinally 4600Miles.

    Foook me.

4 hour direct flight from London each way. :)

I can't think of a reason why they can't play it in Kazan tbh, ground is big enough and modern enough

Jesus, what would we give to have Torres perform on a regular basis in the way he did for the last 20 mins in last night's game.
It highlights just how much we need someone up top.

Suspected broken nose apparently, so maybe he will miss the next few games?

4 hours is grand to Tenerife or somewhere nice and hot......not to Kazan :pac:

Would have preferred anyone but Rubin Kazan.... solely because the travelling will be another complication in an already overloaded fixture list...

Might see one or two of the younger lads getting a run out at some stage.
