Ok heres a question for people

Whats the positional breakdown of your squad? Heres mine

Squad size: 24 (at the minute)

    Props 3
Hookers 2 (1 can play prop)
    Locks 4
    Backrow 4
    Scrum halfs 1
Outhalf 3 (one can play scrum half/centre)
    Centres 2
    Wings 3
Fullback 2 (1 is just crap though)

Do people think you need more than 1 replacement per position (eg prop, lock ,centre, wing) in their squad?

Good idea. I have Squad size: 25

    3 Props
2 Hookers (one can play prop and hooker)

    2 Second Rows

2 Blindsides (one can cover second row)
2 Opensides (one could play anywhere in the front row)
1 Number 8 (can cover second row)

1 Scrum half (can play 10)
    1 Out Half

3 Centres (all comfortable anywhere in the backs)

3 Wings (two of them can play centre)

2 Fullbacks (both could sub in the halves)

3 17 year olds who aren't good enough to play just yet.

I think you need at least two in every position but what i try to get, especially in the backs, is players comfortable in a few positions. Don't see the need for 30+ players tbh.

    Squad size: 22

    3 Props
    2 Hookers
    3 Second Rows
    4 Backrows
    1 Scrum Half
    1 Outhalf
    3 Centres
    3 Wingers
    1 Fullback
    1 Utility Back Reserve

And within those specifications, I'm strictly defining players by my preference of their positions, but as my squad is small and still taking shape, there's a lot of cross positional changes I would make, such as certain back-rows as second rows, full-back as outhalf, wing as centre etc.

    Great Idea!

    My squad has 26 Players:

    3 Props
2 Hookers (1 can play Prop, the other back row)

    2 Second Rows

4 Back Rows (2 of whom can cover 2nd Row)

2 Scrum Halves (1 can play fly half, the other centre)

2 Fly Halves (1 can play 9, the other 15)

4 centres (2 specialists, 1 can play Back Row, the other Full Back)

2 Wingers (1 is also a bit of a utility back)

1 Full Back (who can play 10 or 12)

    1 Utility Back

3 Trainees (A second Row, Back Row and Winger)

So as you can see, in the backs mostly, I value versatilty since I only have 23 "senior" players. It also allows me to mix up my team selections a bit depending on what game I want to play as obviously they all have different strengths. Actually having just written it out, I have just realised that apart from 2 specialist centres and a winger, all my backs are used across the backline regularly.

This took me a little while to sort out the players passed the first 15 as they are fairly utility focused!

My squad has 27 Players made up of:

    3 Props
    2 Hookers

    4 Second Rows

    5 Back Rows

1 Scrum Halves (covers outhalf sometimes)

2 Fly Halves (1 can play scrumhalf)

4 centres (2 can play anywhere if needed)

4 Wingers (1 is also a bit of a centre back)

    2 Full Back

    Great thread idea.

I tend to run a full 1st and 2nd XV.

32 players, though that's only temporary.

This list might not quite add up. I tend to swop player positions based on the team I'm trying to field.

Currently have 5 players for the prop position, one for each team and a 17year old trainee.

    2 hookers

    4 2nd rows

    2 specialist flankers

6 general back-row guys (newer players who can fill in as 2nds or props etc.)

3 out-halfs (though one is about to be sold.

    2 scrumhalves

um... actually, best way to look at it all is two of each player, plus an extra prop and outhalf.

5 props - including 2 trainees and two others who can sub as a hooker or backrow

    1 hooker

    4 locks

3 backrows - guys I counted as props and 2nd rows cover them

    1 scrumhalf

    2 outhalf

5 centres - most do a job in a few positions, i.e. scrumhalf, wing and fullback cover

    3 wingers

    1 fullback

    squad size: 25
