There have been a few sleet showers here in Cork City so far this morning. This might be about as good as we get, a mix of sleet and wet snow.

On the 12:00 Met Eireann report Casemount is showing Snow Grains, which was a new one on me.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_grains

So that is Snow Grains, Snow Pellets/Graupel, Sleet, Ice Pellets any other types of snow we can get?

We should have a checklist too see how many different types of winter precip you can see in one day :D

Looks disappointing again for Cork City so - bah wet snow! Not good enough!! :-P

  • Registered Users Posts: 932 ✭✭✭snowstorm445

Dew point temps could be very marginal there tonight. I'd be expecting sleet and maybe wet snow at times in the city there. North of the county should see snow though.

How do you feel about hills and suburbs around the city? About 70-80 metres up?

That chart you posted maq for tonight about the east, was looking at the will it rain today radar ,looks like the front is crossing over to us more quickly to my eyes ,do you think it will pick up more moisture crossing the Irish sea? Hopefully that was what you were talking about

No I don't think anything is happening more quickly. Compared the 12pm chart with the radar it matches very well.

Maybe early on but I suspect it, as some forecasts are, that it will become colder later in the night allowing proper snow to fall. This looks set to continue into tomorrow morning.

Might see some light snow if it manages to get that far. I wouldn't say "firing line" though.

It will be a nowcast. At the moment though the dew points look dodgy tonight for places near the coast.
