Does the pink area mean precipitation with a wintry component, no matter how small? Or pure snow?

Stop being ridiculous, that chart is for tomorrow at 12 noon, what temperature it is now or yesterday is meaningless. You're trolling at this stage, all your posts are nonsense.

See the difference between the NAE 18z and the GFS 18z at 24hrs.

The coarse GFS goes for clean circular isobars, while the higher resolution NAE grasps the nuances of the LP.

    GFS 24hrs

Would they usually be very similar at this stage ?

Good bit of difference there at such a short timeframe , obviously the NAE holds more weight in the short time fram as it higher Res

Getting very blustery outside, blizzard anyone ?

The NAE is what we want, a fantastic run at such range, lets hope it's correct, it does have lots of back up, if not back up from the GFS

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭pauldry

Lost faith now I think rain for all bar northeast ni

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭BEASTERLY

Yes. +24 uppers and DPs. Don't look great.

The higher res model sorts that!

I would advise people to beware of what those NAE snow charts show at face value. They don't appear to be of a very high resolution thus the project snow forecasts for high ground up through various parts of the N and E look to be merging into something far more significant than what they actually may be projecting.

18Z NAE has -7, -6 uppers on the east coast at 9pm Friday. On the 12Z they were -6, -3. So a slight upgrade there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,427 ✭✭✭ZX7R

Would the strong winds even up to gale force not help bring wind chill into account helping snow to reach lower levels ,also would the wind not help to bring the lower upper level temperature to lower levels also helping temperature's to drop?

This aint happening, last fri it was due sub, then sun it was tue/wed, then wed it was friday, next it's due to be mon.

The gfs has got this more right imo - and is verifing as we speak. 6 degrees and windy

Yip. Alot better! Some contrast with the GFS at only 24 hours. Weather forecasting is definitely a tough business............

NAE Uppers and DPs at +24.

Very true. But in trend terms, they've been upgrading every run today. That's what I'm happy about. I still think it's all marginal as feck (IMBY) and could be very messy tomorrow. We have to factor in other models as well. Even though the NAE is higher res, doesn;t make it right. I'd say take the NAE with a blend of the top 3 medium term models and that would give us a good idea :)

GFS looking very good for Monday with snow falling readily in the South
Worth noting though that this is from cold coming in from the West not the East so DP's will be higher!!

And by that stage we're pulling dry cold surface air from our neighbours too. Looking more promising the closer we get. Dont uderstand some of the sudden doom and gloom.

And no potential snow is forecast is till later tomorrow, if even. Temperatures now are irrelevant.

It would be more likely to do the opposit ....bring warm air up and turn things more to rain....

10pm weather forecast on rte radio 1 mentioned snow on higher ground overnight

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,326 ✭✭✭arctictree

Well its been getting colder here over the last 2 hours. 4.5c now and the front about to hit. Tomorrow should be interesting...

Edit: At this temp the mountaintops must be getting snow now and that snowline will be dropping overnight.

Then again valentia is the mildest place in Ireland in the mildest county. It never freezes in winter and pisses rain most if the year around. Has two ok pubs though....
