  • Registered Users Posts: 14,288 ✭✭✭✭leahyl

Im much more positive now I think we are close to something special
    UKMO is even more wintry

    Ever the optimist :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

UKMO keeps us locked in the freezer at 120 hrs with a renewed push likely from the Northeast.
If that were to happen we could see some serious cold air on the way

GFS differs hugely at this timrefame though

snow reported at knock airport now. So is that front that sits over the Irish sea going to head back this way (West)?? Some heavy showers coming into Mayo now from the NW.

Just reading what the charts are saying
Expect snow reports to come in from all over Dublin this evening

Not sure to be honest. Always assumed they were the same resolution being global models.

JUst checked 0-72 hours on the UKMO is at a resolution of 25km. Compared to 50km for the rest of the run, and 50km for the GFS. SO it has twice the resolution out to 72 hours, not too shabby!

Fantastic photos SnowDrift - was up the same way myself earlier. It got a bit ropey tbh.

D16 here, seems to be a constant alternation between rain, sleet and something resembling snow.

Hmmm, this is what I found on a netweather thread from last January...

UKMO - 25Km Resolution 70 Vertical Levels to 144 Hours
    GFS - 27 km / 64 vertical layers to 192 Hours

Only if the southwest gets as much snow as the GFS thinks it will. It's very marginal so I'd have serious doubts about it.

Rain turning increasingly sleety in the City Centre this afternoon.

Always the voice of reason! I suppose it also depends when this precipitation arrives. the later on sunday the better..

Am I right -> when I see a DP of say 1degC, it means that water will condense out of the air at that point as it is saturated?

Low DP figures (relative to actual air temperature) means a high chance of precipitation?

I was just around the corner. Seemed sleety to me @4pm. Went for late lunch at 3 and the rainfall was drastically different.

At 72 hours the GME has -8 uppers almost reaching the coast from the west. With the -10 line not too far behind.

It's not often you see that.

Been raining/sleeting here in south dublin all day since morning time. Turned to big snow flakes for a few mines just a while ago, back to sleet again. Its also about 2C here. Hopefully well get the real snow tonight ! :)

In Dublin 8 right on the edge of town, seems to be a good few snowflakes mixed in with the sleet. Definitely feels cooler

Snow for Dublin this evening ? Where is the percip going to come from ? That front seems like moving away from the East.

Anyone else unable to get to www.raintoday.co.uk ?

    Any snow for munster?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,371 ✭✭✭lolie

Meself and the brother went to to Patrickstown hill outside oldcastle earlier.
Its like a different country up there, 5 - 6 inches and drifts of a foot in spots.
I'll post some pics in the pic forum later.

If it does snow it won't stick. For the past 50hrs here it has been constant heavy rain with no let up and a very gusty easterly wind. Setting off alarms and knocking over bins non stop.
