That GFS snow accumulation is a mile off for tomorrow. THere is absolutely no snow in Donegal while 30miles plus to our east is a complete white out

  • Registered Users Posts: 932 ✭✭✭snowstorm445

Typically of the GFS, when heights begin to build towards Greenland around Saturday next it creates a stupidly overpowered low out of nothing to destroy it.

I know its far out but it is just so GFS!

Good amount of snow here at 60m just outside Letterkenny, only less than an inch on the wet ground but nearly 3 inches on top of the cars.

I'm glad someone is getting some - just wish it was me, but I've not given up hope just yet. Got another 5 weeks of snow-viable winter ahead of us.

Dunno if the wind would be strong enough to generate much convection anyway but bloody typical that the uppers of -8 will be in place tomorrow but the poxy wind is from due east. ie no streamers for anyone south of North County Dublin because of the Isle of Man Shadows Big Daddy. I always knew there was a reason I hated the Welsh ;)

I was just going to say I wouldn't be expecting too much tomorrow. We'll see.

EDIT: I'd want to point out that higher wind speeds don't necessarily mean better lake effect snow convection. The ideal range is between about 10-40mph. we'll be well within that range tomorrow. And slower windspeeds favour nearer the coast as the precip will be dumped near there over a short distance, whilst at higher windspeeds, the precip is generally dumped further inland, but spread over a longer distance.

I think Gerry was quite close to the mark last night (for today's forecast)
He was certainly much more accurate than us lot.
Hit like if you think that's the case

last night, yes. only due to the centre of this circulation being larger than some output suggested / mild sector etc.

however the forecasts thursday were awful.
