Don't want to jinx it, but Lidl (Baldoyle, maybe others) are selling these off for €30. Come rain or shine I WILL use this between 5th-15th Feb, even if I've to purchase an air fare to Norway!

UK Outlook for Tuesday 5 Feb 2013 to Thursday 14 Feb 2013:

Tending to turn colder and rather unsettled across the UK throughout much of this period. There will be a mixture of sunny spells and blustery showers, which will turn increasingly wintry, though probably falling as rain or sleet in the south at first. There is the potential for some accumulations of snow in places exposed to the north and northwest. It will be windy across the UK, with severe gales possible in the northwest. The best of the sunshine will be towards the east and southeast of the UK. Generally rather cold, with overnight frost in inland shelter at first, becoming more widespread throughout next week. Towards the end of the period, there is a good deal of uncertainty, but perhaps becoming drier and less cold for a time.

I was waiting for that updated UKMet outlook, it feels more real once they get on board.

I know the current modelling shows most potential in the north and northwest mid-week but would that cold northerly flow not be subject to major modification as it tracks out over the north Atlantic?

very brief 2 to 3 mins but snow nonetheless
To be fair temperatures can fall dramatically in showers and if the intensity was there I believe it could happen

We even had sleet here and it's not particularly cold

very brief 2 to 3 mins but snow nonetheless
That's not snow, its called soft hail.
    I had some here yesterday.
To the untrained eye,it does look like snow.
There will be no need for mountain rescue teams to come in or anything.

Regarding the bigger picture,I'm expecting an artic sourced northwesterly to appear
shortly probably coinciding with Mt's window.
The air looks like taking an unusual route via scandinavia but this time because of the likely angle of the high pressure out west will arrive in Ireland from a northwesterly.
Due to its source and track, its going to be a potently snowy northwesterly, having had less true atlantic mixing.
So If I lived in Letterkenny,Sligo,Mayo,Galway and possibly west Munster,I'd be getting ready*

*Good chance of this,it may happen differently or not at all but,I'm thinking its a strong option.
Of course,it means not much in the Dublin area or south of it.,

Met Eireann's forecast falling in line with MT for a cold spell next week :

Turning much colder on Monday night, with showers turning increasingly wintry, with the risk of snow showers, especially in the north and northwest.
Risk of frost and icy stretches also, despite the fresh to strong westerly wind.
Tuesday : Bitterly cold and very windy, with a mix of bright spells and heavy showers, many of them wintry, with a risk of scattered thunderstorms.
Max. 3 to 6 C, in a strong to gale force west to northwest wind. The risk of frost and icy patches continues on Tuesday night, with further wintry showers.
Wednesday : Still very cold, with fresh to strong northerly winds and with sunny spells and showers, some of them wintry, especially in the north, with a continuing risk of thunder. Strong northerly winds will ease on Wednesday night, and it will be mostly dry, but very cold and frosty.
Further outlook : Early indications are that it will remain very unsettled in the second half of next week and very cold much of the time, with frost at night and a risk of wintry precipitation.
