Considering switching my broadband provider to UPC as part of their all-in-package. However part of their system requirements in having Windows 7 or higher and I only have Windows Vista.

UPC offer a way around this by the downloading of an "Optimiser" .exe file.

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on the use of the Optimiser, how effective it was, any issues arising etc?

    Thanks.

The version of windows they are stating is merely the version they'll provide technical support on, as in they'll talk you through a certain level of troubleshooting.

At the end of the day it'll work with any operating system, be it Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 98SE, Linux, Unix or Mac. As long as its configured for wired or wireless correctly it won't matter.

The Optimser tool just adds some registry settings:

The following values will be entered in the registry by the UPC Speed Optimizer:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]

    “SackOpts”=dword:00000001

    “TcpWindowSize”=dword:0003ebc0"

    Tcp1323Opts”=dword:00000001

    “DefaultTTL”=dword:00000040

    “EnablePMTUBHDetect”=dword:00000000

    “EnablePMTUDiscovery”=dword:00000001

    “GolbalMaxTcpWindowSize”=dword:0003ebc0

If any of the entries does not exist, it will be automatically generated by the UPC wizard and the corresponding values will be entered.

It just modifys some TCP Settings to apparently increase the performance with their Fiber Power product.
