Need to see another replay, but did Dan screw up yet again? Looked like he pushed Belfort back and then let him continue again.

Bloody awful night for him if so.

Slaughtered for the call in the NC earlier, terrible late stoppage in the Nurmagomedov - Tavares fight and then indecisiveness in the main event.

That finish is upsetting. It's such a nothing fight for Belfort. He's not getting a shot at Silva anytime soon. This puts the middleweight division on hold for a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,707 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Just saw it again, Dan did stop Belfort and then let it go again. Just for a second, but still very poor refereeing.

May be good news for Rockhold. If there aren't any stand out contenders, his status as incoming SF champ could swing it.

    There's also Weidman.

If that's a nothing fight for Belfort, can you imagine what a nothing fight Bisping would be for Silva? Those Okami/Maia/Leites fights were horrible to watch. Sad as it is, Belfort has become a good gatekeeper.

Great kick. Fair play to Belfort he had it in his eyes tonight... old lions are dangerous!

Rough to call Belfort a gatekeeper in all fairness he'd beat most other top 10 MW - certainly 6 of the top 10 - Okami, Stann, Phillipou, Boetch, Munoz and Bisping and possibly Weidman too... I don't buy ALL the Weidman hype myself.I think Belfort would knock him out but there ya go...

oh and Lombard v Belfort would be deadly. That'll happen I'd say.

Feel bad for Bisping though - lads put his heart n soul into MMA... and showed in the end he has a proper fighters heart counter to what people used to say about him (myself included). He could conceivably see another shot at the title within the next 2-3 years but it would almost take a miracle - he'd have to beat 2 or 3 top top guys to make the argument again.

So who the hells fightin Silva now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

“I have no excuses,” Bisping said. “I had a fantastic training camp, and I felt very confident that I was going to win this fight. It was a beautiful kick. He caught me, and he was a better man than me tonight. You win some, you lose some. I am not going away. Trust me, I’ll be back at the top of this pile before you [expletive] know it.”

    love the guys attitude..

Cool - thanks for letting us know! Didn't realise the result was already in.

It is now and it hasn't changed ;)

A person makes a prediction for outcome of a sporting event. Fairly rare thing isn't it?

He stated it like a fact.

Or simply add "I reckon" or "IMO" to his sentence. Anything can happen in a fight at that level; stating your opinion as if it's a fact and no other outcome is possible is arrogant & dumb... IMO.

Getting wound up about syntax seems an awful lot dumber, get over it.

Bisping is the only top 10 guy he beats and all of a sudden he can beat most of the 10 ten?!

I think Vitor could beat a lot of those guys on his day. In fact I would favour him to beat quite a few of them. I doubt many of them would want to stand and trade with him anyway. Even getting on he's still a very good striker with genuine KO power. Those type of guys are always dangerous unless you can hold them down.

Vitor was actually very impressive last night. He didn't fight at a frantic pace so he conserved his energy very well and the way he set up the high kicks with body shots was obviously a well thought out strategy from him and his trainers. He still has the power and is still very quick. Usually as you get older the speed is what goes first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,981 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

I think maybe with the exception of weidmann that he would beat
all of the above fighters mentioned but okami would push him close
he's easily top 5 in the mw division but it's hardly stacked with talent either

    mailburner wrote: »

He would destroy Okami standing but there's a good chance that Okami would manage to hold him down for 3 rounds and ride out a decision.

Sad as it is, Belfort has become a good gatekeeper.

    Don't think so myself
take out jones and silva out of their respective division and he
    could be champ
franklin, wandy, mir, stann and bisbing just to name a few Id put in that bracket who
will never win a belt or imo get another shot but I do think bisb has
more chance than any of the others mentioned if he gets the right fights

on a different note, what he hell was he doing calling jones out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,482 ✭✭✭✭Ush1

It was strange how he called out Jones rather than Anderson.

I think if Vitor beats the Lombard Okami winner he is certainly worthy for a second fight with Anderson, depending on what happens with Weidman and Rockhold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,707 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Then watch it again - he went to step in but didn't.

Then I think YOU need to watch it again.

Dan put his hand on Belfort's shoulder, then stepped back, then pushed him off. Belfort hesitated when the hand was put on him, then landed another shot, then it was over.

He didn't stop it, but putting his hand on Belfort then stepping back was a cock up.

What? He's beat 1 notable person since Franklin and that was on Saturday.

If he gets another shot with 1 more win that's a joke. He already got a shot at the LHW title after having a win at MW and another at a catchweight.. How does that equate to a shot??

I'd rather see a re-match between Bisping and Belfort before seeing him have another go at the belt.

His win really messed things up in that division. He clearly showed he has no interest in MW. Just stopped by to fúck up Bispings hopes and then call out Jones

This is the UFC we're talking about. Money talks.
Bisping has always been down the pecking order cause Brits don't need to pay-per-view, and he's not very sellable in America cause of the accent imo.

Brock Lesnar and Chael Sonnen anyone? They dont' deserve shots but they put bums on seats.

Who else does Anderson fight at MW?

Bisping had a lot of momentum and Vitor took it with style, why would you want a rematch of a fight you just saw that ended very decisively?

Only ones left for MW title contention realistically are Lombard, Vitor, Weidman and Rockhold. Maybe Jacare at a stretch?

Lombard is fighting Okami, Weidman is out till the summer. Only solution I see is that Vitor fights the Lomard Okami winner or waits to fight Weidman in the summer or fights Luke Rockhold. If Vitor wins any of them he is pretty much the number 1 contender.

Cannot help but feel we're blessed Sonnen is going up to 205. Not that I didn't enjoy the build up - fight etc, but Silva Sonnen 3 in such a short space could well have been up for discussion. Would love to see Rashad - Anderson at withe weight class. Also Hendo said he'd go to 185 if it was for a belt.

I might be alone in this but I think the MW division is pretty stacked, especially with the addition of the SF guys.. its just Silva is so good that everyone else looks like bums by comparison. If Silva were to leave the division right now MW would up there with LW as the most interesting divisions imo

I vaguely remember seeing the UFC earnings last year and Bisping was on top, so the UFC do seem to strongly value him.

    Bisping was the top earner?
Eh? More than the likes of bones and Silva and shonnen?

Wasn't top but was very high. Been around a long time, consistently headlining events, rarely injured so fights pretty often instead of long gaps. Might not get ppv bonuses much but his flat rate is very high. All adds up over a year

    Found this:
    http://www.mma-manifesto.com/ufc-fighter-salary-database/salary-main/2012-fighter-salaries-top-10-earners.html

I guess these are flat wages without PPV and endorsements but it's weird to see Lombard and Bisping above Anderson for example.

Hector must have negotiated some contract.

ROBERT "BUBBA" MCDANIEL - with 15 subnissions in 20 wins !!

LUKE "BIGSLOW" BARNATT - just coz he's a freak at 6'6'' at 185 !! (he's one of the 2 Brits)

and this lad looks a bit vicious can't wait to see him fight

Josh Samman 6' 3'' and with size as well somehow although he may have fought at 205 in the past (in fact a good few of them seem to be comin down to 185!)

I noticed Fraser Opie is in? Big lad, assume he'll find it hard to cut for his 185 fights !!

Best nikname has to go to Nick 'The Machete' Fehete from Randy's gym... 32 ...can't be that good and under the radar but who knows

    Daft time.

The plus side is (I think) it means we're viewing at pretty much the exact same time as the States, which is a big improvement on some of the previous seasons when we were 3-4 days behind.

But seriously, there should be a repeat on at a reasonable time to try and bring in new viewers too.
