Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

At the end of June I will have finsihed my first year of teahing and will be paid during the summer holidays! I was just wondering what do teachers actually do durin the summer. I don't just want to sit around all summer. I've been teaching abroad all year.

Just wondering really what do teaches do during this time?

travel, house maintenance, enjoy weather if we get any. One thing I would say is don't get into the habit of staying up until 4am and sleeping until 2pm, it becomes very unhealthy and very hard to get out of it for school again.
    Enjoy the time off!

I finish at the end of May.

I supervise exams for 10-15 days.
    Have a week off.

    Correct papers for 3-4 weeks.

5 weeks off, travel a bit

    Back to work

I correct exams in July. That takes up the whole month more or less. I go on holidays in June or August, and sometimes in a fit of madness both. :D

It really is one perk of the job if you want to travel and see some places for a few weeks at a time, while having a wage coming in. A teacher I work with went to Australia for most of the summer holidays last year, most people can't do that in other jobs.

Like the other posts said, if you want to work, you could work in a summer school/ Irish college, go volunteering home or abroad, or travel. Having some down time and just chilling, catching up with friends, being able to get up and go shopping and heading off for a day trip on a random weekday just because you can should not be underestimated.
