Gotta be said the pace of play here is absolutely shocking , sure it must be having an effect in tigers game - waiting 5 mins at least on every shot!
Slow play is the scurge of this great game and its time the authorities start handing out penalty strokes to offenders.

    I agree.

It was a bit of a mess the way it finished up round 3, so play was out of synch a bit. So hard to see full picture.

But guys ahead were very slow.

Yeah very true .i just don't think it fair for the commentators to be critical of tigers round as we all know how it effects your game when your waiting all the time and can't flow/ build any momentum.
Still congrats to him for the win , setting up for a great season ahead :0)

No - there is something wrong with Tiger's swing - no doubting that.

Aw yeah not denying that - still a lot of work to do there alright - just don't think he would have had such a poor back nine had it not been for the sloths in the group ahead is all !

    Can it, will it happen.

Tiger v Rory final pairing last day of a major all square.

    That would be a feast!

Can someone explain to me how TW can reclaim the No. 1 spot in the world with a win in the Arnold Palmer after the last few years he's had?? Ok he had a good year last year but so did Rory.

It seems he gets twice as many ranking points as everyone else.

Because he has 5 wins in less that a year!

The ranking system isn't closed-source, the details are explicitly laid out and available to everyone. I think someone would notice if the maths wasn't adding up

Is he sleeping with the points secretary?

Sorry Tiger if you're reading this, low blow.

6 wins in the last 2 years, or 13 Top 15's.
    Only 2 missed cuts.

That level of consistency earns you a lot of points!
Also it's points earned recently that are of far greater value than points earned last year, his two wins in 2013 will be a big boost to him compared to McIlroy's record for 2013 thus far

    jeasuz i wasn't saying he was cheating!!!!

It just amazes me that when he took the break from golf it took him a few events to settle back in and there was a few events where he wasn't placed. I know he has had a few important wins in the last year - but so has McIlroy. I just can't get my head around the speed that he has shot back up the rankings.

It is only a technicality that is stopping Tiger being number 1 right now.

He only played 36 events over the past 2 years but the rankings require a minimum of 40. The result is that his points total is divided by 40 instead of 36 and dropping his average points below Rory.

    Not true, he's played the 40: http://www.officialworldgolfranking.com/rankings/default.sps

EDIT: My mistake, you're right, he's only played 36. The rankings show "# of events", but they actually mean the divisor for calculating average, which is a minimum of 40. So yep, he'd be top now if it wasn't for that

Just reading some of Woods stats in the Irish Times today.
41 wins out of 43 54 holes leads is phenomenal.
He's well on the way to eclipsing Snead's 82 US tour wins as well.
Mentally he's happier in himself and that's one of his big strengths.
Wouldn't be surprised if he started to dominate again.

Also, when Tiger wins it's generally against big fields which deliver more ranking points

Will be interesting to see if he continues his form this weekend. Would be great to have Rory and Tiger both on their A-game for Augusta.

Unless someone comes from the chasing pack he'll be world number 1 by this time tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭take everything

Woods has only lost two 54 hole leads out of 43 so it's looking like he'll be world no. 1 again tomorrow.
That has to be huge going into the Masters.

Can McIlroy regain the top spot before the Masters.

No as he is not playing again until the Masters

    Just read this on Twitter
Of the 77 players to make the cut, Tiger Woods is 75th in driving accuracy and 64th in ball striking. The lesson, as always: Putt for dough.

Finally, normal service has resumed at the world golf rankings.

Following an interlude of over two years, during which the top spot was tossed around among a few imposters unable to hang on to the honour and hardly worthy of it even for their short tenures, the true Number One has reclaimed his spot.

They have it over on the Sergio thread to help out those who cant handle the excitement of some folks about one guy climbing a tree. Was ever so much noise made about one so under-achieving golfer ?

Back on topic, three wins from five forays this year reminds one of that golfer who from 1997 to 2010 redefined golfing achievment.

I would like to see Tiger win the masters on the thursday
if he goes low, like a 59 / 60, the rest of the field will just crumble

Be some shooting considering his best is 65 (in 1997) and he's only broken 70 in less than 1/3 of his rounds.

Depends totally on the weather for him - if its hard running and fast he won't be forced into hitting driver as much. Would like to see him challenging anyway.

Great to see him back to his best. That reply to Fowler's birdie on the 12th? was vintage Woods.
Now all we gotta do is hope Rory steps up to the plate. Why couldn't he have stayed with Titleist one more year?-just to nullify the "he's getting used to the clubs" argument.

No point in 1 putting all day long if it's for bogey after being in the trees off the tee though

Woods' new woman must take great credit btw
she has satisfied his hunger and transformed him into a World No 1 once again
he looked like he was gonna turn into a total loser there for about 12/15 months

Woods is now my favourite sportsperson of all time again
i prob need to get some nike gear this weekend
