Had a heavy enough hail shower here 30 minutes ago. 3 to 4mm hail.

Nice area of showers developing around Cavan/Monaghan. Hope they move south quick enough/before daylight goes.

Yes, went for a widdle and was looking out the window at the moment the sky flashed. Was very surprised and stayed awake far too long waiting for some more :-s

think we got a rumble of thunder in Dublin 9 a few minutes ago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Yes there was a significant lightning strike almost overhead here. It coincided with a plane heading through so i would imagine the lightning struck the plane. Will be interesting to see if it is noted later.

The lightning seems very sparse but powerful, the rumble this morning was immense. Is this typical with the type of cold spell we are getting?

Lightening observed around the gormanstown area I'd say. Looking from a distance. Faint thunder could be heard.

Slight risk of coast thunderstorm activity 2moro morning in the SW .
NOthing severe with lack of daytime heating involved but with considerable shear and strong lapse rates there should be a nice few sparks about..

Keeping an eye on a risk for next Wednesday for some land based convection :), its a long time away in terms of convective forecasts but been looking ok the last few runs. :)

    248033.png

WIth nice instability present , not much would have to change in terms of Shear for a decent risk for something photogenic! :)

Hail and Lightning risk for 2moro folks. SW and Midlands is where the potential is.

NOt to bad of a day so far considering the lack of clear skies for Surface heating.

Latest sferics showing up from a small cell in Kilkenny .

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭John.Icy

Looks like I got lucky for once! SW Kildare, looks like the cell of the moment along with some pink over Dublin!

Rain was heavy, but my god the hail was unreal! Peas and marbles, crazy force.ground was whiter than all the snow from this winter :D:D stopped amazingly fast two, within seconds, before more hail albeit lighter began shortly again along with some Thunder. Nice to see this!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,196 ✭✭✭pad199207

Send it this way Icy :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 219 ✭✭Penname

Just on the eastern edge of that cell over central Kildare and it's ominous looking alright. Hope it produces a few more flashes.

Warning, poor quality camera phone pictures ahead!

The edge of that little 'system' that rotated over Galway yesterday and dumped a few heavy showers. Nice curve on the outer edge.
