Back in our hands again, no excuses now.

Michael Dean is the ref for the Wigan game.

If you go 4 or 5 pages back you'll see an interesting table re Mike Dean.... really doesn't bode well.

Still, no excuses, we have to beat Wigan and that's that. We don't really deserve Champions League if we can't beat a relegation threatened club 3 days after they've appeared in a cup final.

We're in the same boat, Villa are all but safe so in theory we should steam roller them even with a weakened side on Saturday morning, win that and we will see a top 4 finish unless we loss to Everton by a bucket load and Spurs manage to score tons in the last 2 games.

Its all down to arsenal and Chelsea getting the job done and spur are hoping for a slip up from either but their 2 games agaisnt Stoke and Sunderland are no gimmes at this stage of the season.

The oddds are heavily weighted in Arsenal and Chelseas favour but you cant rule Spurs out just yet.

I'd settle for a St. Totteringham's day to be honest.

One has to give Spurs a certain level of credit in recent times.

They beat City, they came from behind to draw against Chelsea at the bridge, they've been getting late winners.

    Still though, f**k 'em.

Oh so would I but I think Chelsea are out on there feet if they don't put any teams away in the first half I think there in big trouble.

I 'think' we will beat Wigan Tuesday and I 'think' Spurs will draw with Stoke securing 4th for us. As bad as Newcastle are at the minute I dont want to be going there last day of the season needing a win! They are capable of beating the top teams on their day.

Looks like Rooney is definitely out of Utd in the summer, how would yous feel if we put in a bid for him? I know its unlikely with his wages but it would be great to see him come to us it would be poetic justice after Van Persie leaving for them last season :D

I think Rooney is overrated, and there are better players out there to be had for less. The wages he'd demand I think Spain is his only destination.

I wouldn't like him. The whole contract nonsense of a couple of years ago turned me off him completely.

Rooney is on massive wages and he doesn't look like the player he used to be. Better value elsewhere.

I'm not so sure about him not being the player he used to be. I think it was just that he's been forced to play deeper due to RVP being in the side which impacted his goal tally. He'd be a good addition to our side imo, he'd give us some of that physicality that we're lacking up front but his wages put him out of our reach anyway.

Bayern Munich are meant to be interested too. Can't really see him adapting to another culture though... maybe I'm being harsh on him

The one thing I am loving about the "United Situation" is that it is taking the spotlight off us and will continue to do so for the summer. All the speculation will be about them, who's leaving, who's retiring etc. With the extra cash coming in and a few decent signings etc we might just come in under the radar for a lot of teams and commentators next season. Just reading the United thread they are discounting us already.

I assume that if we don't make CL then the cash reserves will plug that gap rather than go on signings?

The end of this season should prove crucial. If we miss out on CL we're set for at least another 5 years of going nowhere, if we get in then what we do in the transfer market over the summer will be absolutely critical and show where we're headed as a club.

Maybe I'm been naive but i think we will spend big (for us) this summer no matter what

    Dont rate him nah?

I thinking there are reservations about him as he hasn't managed at the top top level (not his fault) but I think he has earned a shot at the big time. Though the jump from the toffee's to United is huge.

Biggest test will be how he resolves the Rooney situation. Moyes cannot afford to look weak in his handling of this. I think he'll revert to priors and sell Rooney :P

Well if ever there was opportunity to become competitive for the title again it's this Summer. United/City and Chelsea will all strengthen but everything is up in the air now so with some strong spending Arsenal could be a force next year but they'll need to spend 50-70 million.

The idea that we have the right amount of money to cover missing the CL next season is what worries me.
We really are at a crucial juncture though, United will be changing, City are going to have to shift some focus to the CL, Chelsea if they get the right man in should be excellent, it's embarrassing the strength they have in some areas, I reckon Liverpool will get up towards 70 points and be in with a shout of CL and spurs will be there or thereabouts again.

I'd piss myself laughing if he went to City.

I'm not so sure I think Moyes is a very good manager who has done enough to earn a shot at one the big clubs and it takes some cohonas to take over from Ferguson the main problem will be will United and its fans have the patience for a settling in period to stamp his own mark on the club and if there not challenging and say finish third or fourth in the league will there be murder, Moyes has a big job on his hands and will be tested immediately with Rooney and I'dimagine Scholes and Giggs retiring he will have to stamp his own authority immediately with new signings etc unless of coarse Ferguson doesn't alreay have signing wrapped up.

For Arsenal and the EPL it will be a summer of upheaval with Chelsea bringing in a new manager, City being City, United for the first time in a long time facing into uncertainty and well fingers crossed we finally start spending and bring in the players we need we can't continue to fall behind its now or never this summer theres money there no more excuses spend it. Still nervous as fook about the remaing games though.

I think that Moyes will do very well at Utd. A lot depends on what squad he has at his disposal and who leaves or stays and have faith in him. Some of the old guard at Utd may not be happy just like happened at Chelsea and cause trouble?

I would expect Utd to be as competitive as ever and we have to push on and not expect it to be an easier just because Ferguson is retiring.

Id be very surprised at this tbh. Those Chelsea players were a classless bunch who thought they ran the club.

    In hindsight they did too

26 years with the same manager who he ruled with an iron fist, so Utd are in a whole new territory. Very interesting times ahead.

So you are of the opinion that the united squad consists entirely iof upstanding professionals who only have the best interests of the club at heart lol at the naivety.

Alot more respect in that dressing room, Scholes, Ferdinand, Giggs, Vidic, and even to a lesser extent Evra

No chance in hell I agree with that, look at some of their personal lives for a start, alot in common with those Chelsea lads.

Pretty sure Scholes will go now and probably Giggs aswell.

Just cause JT and giggs play away from home doesnt mean their alike! Plus Fergie is still there!

Easy there tiger you're getting your knickers in a twist.

Your insinuation that the United players would never behave like the Chelsea ones because the Chelsea players were a classless bunch would make me assume that you were inferring that the united players were the opposite to classless??

Have I misunderstood your inane ramblings, if so I apologise

And really your hole is of no concern or interst to me.

I'm still annoyed Wenger didn't get one last shot to duel with ferguson. I used to love it when the two of them were being hypocritical and pissy at each other.

If he stays in England I'd say there is a better chance of him moving to Chelsea or City before us.

No chance of rooney, the wages are double our highest earner.

    Henry's still got it

He never lost it. Pace was all he lost, his finishing is as good as ever.

Unless he takes a massive wage cut Rooney is not happening. He'd be a great signing no doubt, he nearly always hits around 20 league goals a season, sometimes more. But his wages mean it's a non starter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,665 ✭✭✭✭extra gravy

We will never challenge again if we don't break our wage structure though. We either have to accept where we are now or embrace the unfortunate reality that the game is now a money driven monster. This summer will tell us which road we want to take.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

With the added money from the kit and sponsor deals we could bring in 3 players for 40 million (each), pay them almost double what Theo earns and still be comfortable.

Unfortunately we'll probably just give half the existing squad a big pay rise. Wenger loves his socialist wage structure.

We can afford to raise it, but not to £200,000 a week. Think thats double our current level. If one player gets it, others will be wanting increases also. He'd need to take a pay cut as we cant afford that kind of money right now. Maybe in a few years we can.
