Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Re Giroud:

Only 7 players in the last 10 years in Arsenal have ever scored more than him in one season, including Walcott and Cazorla this season.

Only one has done so on their debut season for Arsenal: Cazorla.

Both also hold the record (in this period at the very least) of doing this in their debut season in the premiership.

To say he is crap or not an Arsenal standard is complete rubbish and totally facetious. I don't know of any other player in Arsenal who has had a similar record to him (besides Cazorla) and yet he is not good enough?

Others have used Henry as an example of how the first year can affect a player in a new league. I'm not sure you can say that about two players on completely different teams but considering the team that Henry played with in his first season and the team that Cazorla/Giroud played with, you can not deny they both have massive potential. I hope they get to realize that potential next year and aren't just dropped because they were "flops" in their first season.

Not one person has branded Giroud a flop/crap or not Arsenal standard? You gave out earlier saying someone was putting words in your mouth I think you just done the same ;).

Most agree he has had a decent debut season but that his finishing at times has been poor and he will need to kick on next year and we could do with another striker, and if that striker happens to be be Jovetic or Higuain or whoever I doubt there will any complaints, if we bring in someone of there quality and if Giroud kicks on to the next level then happy days.

Im going to have to say i agree with Farna on the Chamakh issue, about the time he was dropped he was in good form but never seemed to recover, why, we'll never really know only speculate. I do also think he has wasted his last few years sitting on the bench when he probably should have moved off to another club. Maybe the wages were the problem that he wasnt shifted but the club must take responsibility for that, he wasnt the only player we were stuck with because we gave silly wages to every tom dick and harry.

It's a different point though. I think everyone is in agreement that Chamakh has not been a good purchase and it would have been ideal to move him on a couple of years ago. It's the clubs fault for making a purchase they shouldn't have.

But it's not the clubs fault that his form nosedived.

Have ye signed Sanogo yet? Should probably tell you to be patient with him, took him till 2015/16 to really settle and start scoring at prodigeous levels for me in Football Manager

I think looking at it retrospectively, if he had been able to continue the form he had showed in those first 3 months he had the potential to be a very good player for us, and could have been a good purchase for us.

It's a pity he didn't get that chance and I think not getting that chance was part of the reason his form nosedived (although I could be wrong, and it could have been coincidental).

I do agree though he should have been moved on a few years ago and it would have been more benefit to everyone.

Would you really have kept him in instead of RVP tho? And once RVP was back he couldnt be dropped the way him was scoring. Maybe it was a bit unfortunate on Chamack but you have to admit he hasnt shown any reason since that he could play a part for us. Hopefully he gets the move he wants to Bordeaux.

    Re: Chamakh's confidence:

Boo-friggadee-hoo! If you want to play at a top class level you need to have the right attitude. Lost your place in the team? Fight to get it back! That rubbish 'poor me' attitude among several of our players is part of the reason we haven't been challenging for honours.

On the topic of strikers, I see Giroud is back for Newcastle. Personally I'd start with Podolski and bring on Capital-G (that's what I call him now) on later. Opinions?

No and I have said that from the start. Obviously RvP should have been first choice but maybe they both could have played in a 4-4-2 in unimportant games.

Whatever. Hope he gets his move to Bordeaux as well.

Id bring Giroud straight back into the team. Sounds stupid but even tho he scored two goals he didnt have the best of games against Wigan. Giroud is better at holding the ball up and laying it off. Plus is Podolski 100% fit. If he is id start him on the wing.

I'd rather have Giroud start too tbh.

Giroud to def start, will help use keep the ball and defend set pieces better
Opening half hour will be very nervy I'd say

Feeling full of confidence! I fully expect Arsenal to go up there and batter Newcastle. Another repeat of the Wigan performance is on the cards. COYG

I expect Arsenal to win 1-0 and it to be nervy as feic, But i also fancy Di Canio to go and spoil Spurs party no matter what the result in our game, It's just one of those funny things that always happens last day of the season

Don't expect there to be a playoff either as I think chelsea will batter everton too at the bridge, Don't expect them to come off the high they've been on for the last 2 months

I have a feeling Everton may sneak a result at the bridge

As long as we win I couldn't care less about the rest.
We have to win and anything after that is a bonus.

Mike Ashley offering a £1m bonus to his backroom staff if Newcastle beat Arsenal tomorrow, according to the Sunday People (I know, I know). Ashley is reportedly a closet Spurs fan.

Although the same back page suggests more than a dozen Sunderland players were in a casino the other night when it was really just Bardsley and Kilgallon so who knows.

Just for the record he's actually a chelsea fan not a spurs fan.

Can't say I'd be too happy if I was a member of the backroom staff depending on a bunch of players who have let said staff down time and time again this year, in order to get my bonus :pac:

Last time he proposed a bonus for a game Newcastle surrendered a 3-0 lead to West Brom and drew 3-3 with a last minute Tchoyi goal meaning they finished below Sunderland, so it's a good omen anyway :pac:

Hopefully, but it wont mean anything unless we win. The only way we can get third is with a win and Chelsea dropping points.

As great as third would be, I'd be happy just getting fourth. Especially seeing as it's in our own hands. Win and we're in. Even a draw will do if spurs dont win.

We could lose and spurs draw and we'd still finish 4th. Hopefully though we'll win comfortably and not have to worry about what's going on at WHL

Just get the win tomorrow. I'm going to be very hungover flicking between us and Spurs, they better not ****ing let me down. Then we spend 50 million over the summer and the world is our oyster.

2012/13 Player of the Year Results:

    1. Cazorla 47.69%
    2. Koscielny 30.77%
    3. Ramsey 12.31%

Great debut season for Cazorla, hopefully things can only get better now that he is settled. Fairly sure Koscielny came third last season so it's improvement for him. Maybe next year will be his year? Ramsey, as best I can recall, got hardly anything last season so he stepped up big time.

Pretty decisive in the end (roughly 90% went to the top three). Only Mertesacker and Walcott got votes otherwise. So did Arshavin but I'm guessing that was a joke.

If I remember, I'll do the poll more in depth next season, rather than the one and done this year.

What's the story with Arshavin? Why hasn't he been moved on yet? Wage issue maybe?

Really can't see what he brings to the Arsenal team anymore.

    Insane stuff from Newcastle.

So if they lose, all the less well-off employees of the club will blame the players for costing then a shared 1 million.

What a brilliant management strategy. You can see how this would bring the club together.

Cant wait for the game today! Dont wanna be cocky but think we will beat them. Newcastle havent looked like a team all season. Hopefully they are on a wind down!!

Probably one of our best players in the last month or so, but nowhere near the top five over the course of the season.
