Arsenals next gen side are through to the semis with a 1-0 win over CSKA thanks to a Gnabry strike.
Looks to be some very promising looking players coming through.

Didn't see the game but a goal from Serge Gnabry has put the under 21s into the semi-finals of Next-Gen series.

Chelsea next up in the semi to be played in Como, Italy.

Play Chelsea in the semi finals aswell.

Some really good movement from the young guys tonight - Illev looks confident in goals although he didn't have a lot to do, Bellerin can whip in a ball as well, and Eisfeld had a cracking free kick come back off the crossbar near the end. Decent crowd turned up as well.

To anyone who has been watching (ideally more than just our games), how are we sitting in regards winning the lot?

Not sure but 3 of the 4 teams left are English (Arsenal, Chelsea and Villa).

Looking like Madrid might be shipping out Higuaín in the summer.

We should be all over that biting their hands off if at all possible. He strikes me as the type who would make the transition to England in no time at all. He also gets quite overshadowed by the 'Galacticos MkII' at Madrid which deflects from how good he is.

Yeah, that's him. Heard about him when he signed because he's meant to be well thought of but ever saw him play until last night. Looked decent but then CSKA weren't up to much.

Monreal had a brilliant game for Spain tonight including setting up the only goal. Alba wasn't missed at all.

Koscielny had a fantastic game as well. He's really getting back to his best now.

Cazorla didn't feature and Giroud came on for the last 2 minutes of injury time - pretty poor decision that he didn't feature earlier as Benzema had a shocker.

Valdes had an excellent game and made an outstanding save to deny Evra, Wonder if he'll be at the Emirates next season?

Luca Toni what a fúcking Carsten Jancker
Luca Toni feels Fiorentina team-mate Stevan Jovetic should not join Arsenal
By Simone Bargellini. Last Updated: March 26, 2013 6:45pm

Fiorentina striker Luca Toni has advised team-mate Stevan Jovetic to join a 'top club' rather than Arsenal.

Jovetic admitted earlier in the week that a move to Arsenal could tempt him to leave Italy but Toni believes the North London club are no bigger than the side he currently plays for.

Toni wants his team-mate to stay put but says if he leaves it should be for the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea.

The former Bayern Munich striker said: "I tell him to think carefully before leaving Florence, as there is an important project here.

"If he has to leave, then make it for a real top club. Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United fit that bill, but Arsenal are not better than Fiorentina."

Jovetic has been in good form this season and is part of a Fiorentina side that is battling for a UEFA Champions League place in Serie A.

I think it's a desperate play to get him to stay where he is. Hopefully Jovetic ignores him and joins us anyway.

Despite that, he is right that there are bigger clubs. No-one can deny that. :(

I think anyone who suggests that City are a bigger club than us should be taken with a pinch of salt. They may have a better team than us right now but until they match our trophy haul and fanbase, I for one won't consider them bigger than the Arsenal.

Whether they're bigger than Arsenal or not, right now they're a more attractive proposition for a top player.

One thing for sure, Luca Toni was never good enough to play for Arsenal. Gunnersauras would be less awkward up front and have a better touch.

What a difference 5 years and zillions worth of cash makes. One time Robinho was unsure who he had signed for but knew he would be getting a vast integer figure in the week. Man City have finally made their presence felt known to every footballer who hadnt heard of them previously.

Face it they werent going to do it with trophies up to 2008 anyway

Reading went 4-0 up against us earlier this season at the Madjeski (albeit in front of their own fans) and will be probably busting their ass off against us to impress their new manager. Not to be taken lightly

I hope Jovetic signs. Looks a decent player for Montenegro certainly
Brilliant comment from Nacho today :D He is an Arsenal legend already

    http://metro.co.uk/2013/03/28/stevan-jovetic-has-already-agreed-to-join-arsenal-says-fifa-agent-3563763/
Nacho Monreal says it’s not right for Tottenham to be above Arsenal in the Premier League table and vows the Gunners will finish the season on top.
Arsenal go into this weekend’s matches just a point behind rivals Tottenham, who have held the advantage over their north London rivals for much of the season.
Spurs are on course to finish in the Champions League places and, even sweeter, could finish above Arsenal for the first time in years.
But according to Spanish full-back Monreal, Tottenham being the top team in north London is ‘not as it should be’ and the 27-year-old is urging his team-mates to concentrate on usurping their opponents.
‘It’s logical that people are talking because the situation [with Tottenham ahead in the table] is not as it should be,’ said Monreal.
‘We have to use our energy for the matches. If you are thinking of what people are saying, you are wasting that energy. You have to concentrate on the next match.
‘Every fixture is now a final we have to win. That has to be our mentality. I’m sure we will put it right.’
Arsenal face Reading this weekend with Monreal likely to keep his place at left-back ahead of Kieran Gibbs, while Jack Wilshere will have a late fitness to decide his involvement.

Just on Jovetic's 12 in 24 goal scoring record this year, Vela nearly has an identical ratio for Sociedad. Could be harder to get goals in Italy though.

I think Jovetic is a slightly deeper lying forward - how do their assists compare ?

8 Assists for Vela. He seems to have really turned a corner in his career. Only behind Ozil, Iniesta and Cesc according to twitter

    http://espnfc.com/player/_/id/76098/carlos-vela?cc=5739#

According to this Jovetic has only 7 assists since 2011

Vela isnt suited to the strength of Premier League defenders. He's far more suited to the continent. There was never any doubt of his ability.

Agreed was always a fan of Vela just don't think he ever bulked up enough to be able to deal with the EPL

Probably but i notice he seems to have bulked just that little bit in the last two years. The physicality which is sadly a big thing in England was the one missing ingredient that held him back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

Is that really the reason he didn't make the grade. There are plenty of small/slight players around in the EPL who are doing just fine

True enough. I suppose the size of the fight has to be in the dog more importantly

Djourou has started in almost all of Hannover's league and European fixtures since joining in January which is quite incredible.

Question is how many minutes in total has he played does anyone know? Has he been taken off in any games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,572 ✭✭✭TheGunns

I was reading somewhere that Vela could be on his way back. A buy back clause of 4m I think it was. Wouldn't mind seeing him again, never really got a chance to play league game, and I'll always remember that goal he scored in the Carling Cup. Who knows, he could hit it off again if he returns.

Saw that on Sky Sports News today.
However I have to look at the fixtures to decide for myself how much value I put on statistics like this. The list of opposition teams would have been helpful in deciding.
However I do feel we play with more conviction when Jack is in the team.

Feck - that's tough - you really have to feel for him at this stage. It's got to the point now though where we need to plan ahead without him in those plans :(

Time to ship out. Far too injury prone. That leaves us short again. Another injury to a central midfielder and we are in serious trouble.
Gibbs out with illness too Ffs.

Fcuking fair annoying Diaby. That's the end of it I think for him with AFC. Very disappointing.

Agreed time to ship him out, I feel sorry for him but he has been picking up a hefty wage for to long now without getting any decent returns. I can only think of one great performance this season not good enough for a player picking up 60k a week. Wenger or the board need to be plannng for life without him now.

On Gibbs meh when we had Santos id be cursing myself but Monreal has slotted in nicely not a huge loss.
