Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Ches conceded some goals this season in games where he's been put under the same amount of pressure. Villa springs to mind. Fabianski has done his job nicely but it will be interesting to see how he does when he does have a few shots fitted his way

Anyone having trouble ordering from Arsenal Direct? It keeps telling me that my email address is invalid and then if I try register it tells me that an account already exists for my email address

Poor old Eboue still hasn't learned how to defend yet anyway, partly responsible for both Madrid goals...

    As previously reported by the rags. I can confirm that;

Arsenal "ARE" in talks with Fiorentina about Stevan Jovetic.

All depends on qualifying for the champions league.

Looking at the CL games this week I think we give it too much respect and talk ourselves out of games.
We are good as anything left in it from what I can see and could have gone the whole way with a bit more belief in the first leg against Bayern.

In fairness its something I read, that 4 year deal has been agreed but depends on arsenal gettin into cl.

I would say it isn't a million miles off the truth.

Ah right wasnt sure if it was an opinion or something reported :).

I would believe it, if hes leaving Fiorentina I'd imagine he would want Champions League football at a minimum especially considering Fiorentina themselves are on the cusp of qualifying themselves this year.

Be so angry if we miss out on him,but we have been pushing our look for a few years, here's hoping anyway.

Tbh while we do need that special creative talent, its our defence and whats in front of it that needs shoring up. I love Arteta but he's not good enough if we have aspirations of winning things. We never replaced Song.

    Arteta > Song

If you ask me Song was never good enough either, I had no problem with us selling him problem was we never got the replacement/better player we needed.

i think diaby when playing his best and injury free is better than song and arteta but the guy is always injured!
arteta was better last year and slowly on the decline i think as much as im fond of the guy.
jovetic would be mouth watering signing for us:)
jovetic a top goalkeeper and a centre back would be okay in my eyes

While I do agree on the centre back and and top goal scorer for me our main priority should be a DM or at least a powerhouse midfielder in the Yaya Toure mould.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,751 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

A proper big defensive midfielder is still my priority and has been from the summer. In September I said a LB and a DM, we've got our LB. We probably need another striker too but we are scoring our fair share of goals, we're just conceding too many. I think a DM is needed for Santi and Jack to play in the same team.

    I'd love to see

    Jack DM
    Walcott Santi Podolski
    Giroud

    Instead of:
    ----Ramsey--Arteta
    Walcott Jack Santi
    Giroud

Wilshere's more effective as a CM than a CAM at this point in his career IMO and putting Cazorla out wide is a waste. Until Wilshere improves his shooting, leave him deeper where he can set up chances with his trademark runs through the middle, hes a very good 'assist of the assister', but isn't on Cazorla's level of productivity yet.

ya thats another problem our midfield is very very attack minded who would be a good strong defensive minded midfielder?

Any chance that Coquelin could be right for the DM role? - if he's going to have a future at Arsenal, he should be playing more often than he is at the moment

Probably twitter BS but Arsene is pretty keen on Gonalons and this increased after the injury to Diaby

Tbh im not sure I know weve been linked a lot with Capoue and Wanyama but I havent seen enough of either to properly judge.

I like Coquelin but I don't think he is what we need for that position he's not a powerhouse midfielder nor a DM he more of a CM.

Wow that is some list. I feel sorry for the guy. But I would wonder how many of those injuries were sustained in training? Interested in knowing if anybody does know. Maybe he puts it about too much when it doesn't matter. Perhaps keeping him separate from the main squad would have been an option to explore. Specialised training regime.

Notions that Arsenal are anywhere near Real, Bayern, Barca and Dortmund are delusional. Wilshere and Cazorla would be the only players you have that would get anywhere near any of their starting eleven's. Get real.

Feel for Diaby, speaking from am injury prone guy which sprung from a bad ankle break, I respect the guy hugely but pretty soon he's gonna have to consider his health. Nothing but respect though for him pursuing a dream even with all those injuries

Re Diaby I think a more pertinent question would be how many of those injuries would have occured if Dan Smith hadn't destroyed his ankle ?

N.B Note the first injury - I'd say the majority came as a result of that one.

He was injury prone before he joined us. At the time he joined a lot of people questioned why with the amount of injuries he had.

Do you have any links for this ? - not that I don't believe you, it's just that I don't remember that debate.

Anyone looking at Carrick's contribution for United this year and thinking of Ramsey? He's nine years older.

I always maintain that there's optimal ages for particular positions. You know, the way young central defenders are a bad idea, but young wingers are good. Stastically, 21 year old strikers are the best at scoring penalties.

    Anyway all that stuff.

Crucially, there are very few top level 22 year old CMF's. But when a decent one matures, you get an efficient, hard working, tactically aware player with good distribution.

Here's a quote from Santini his manager at Auxerre when he was sold
"Abou was one of the players I used at the start of the season and then he had to stop because of repetitive injuries. Maybe he was attracted by England and the money there. This probably did not force him to make all the necessary efforts to come back to his best level with us."

After this weekend no matter if Spurs win, if we win our next four, we are 5 points ahead of them and their games in hand are City and Chelsea. I would be very confident then and thats with them not slipping up against Everton. Just win the next four and we are in!

Definitely in for Jovetic since February. Also watching Dzeko's situation up at City. #afc

Been reminded that we need Champions League football if we are to attract our top targets in the summer.

Does the 2nd one mean that the board won't sanction top targets without CL revenue or the players won't be attracted to the club unless we're playing CL football

Would reckon it may be more due to players wanting CL football.

To sign top players you need either Champions LEague football or be willing to spend silly money. It's the former for us so...
