    2012 Recap

The 8 weekly winners returned on 19th March last year to contest for the Eamon's Memorial Trophy and €1,000 first prize on a night of stunning darts. Local thrower Brendan Dolan came out on top for a 5th time in the 10years of the event. The Belcoo man recorded a 101.32 average in the Final as he threw flawless darts to secure a 6-0 win over Irvinestown's Eamon McGovern. Dolan didn't miss a dart at a double in the Final as he fired in 15, 14, 13, 18, 16 and 13dart legs which included a 167checkout in the opening leg to secure victory.
Dolan beat Aodhagen O'Neil and his PDC World Cup partner Mickey Mansell on route to the final while McGovern had dispatched Anthony Mullarkey and Sligo's Sean McGowan on his way to the final.
The Qualifying nights seen an average of 45 throwers take part each week and the organisers hope this well supported competition can again draw the crowds.

Starting tonight- hope the weather stays good- all roads lead to 'The Black' tonight as this prestigious competition kicks off for an 11th term.

If you can bring a carload then EAMONS is the place for top Quality darts on a Monday night. Last year there was competitors from as far away as Mayo , Longford and West Tyrone....

This is the competition where the experienced international darter could come up against some of the talented locals.

Last year for example we had the fantastic spectacle of 11 year old ( yes that's Eleven ) Shane Doherty bending the wire of d13 for an 11 dart leg against Michael Timoney.. No matter what standard of Dart you throw , if you have a serious interest in the game then get down to EAMONS piano bar , Blacklion Co . Cavan on a Monday night ...

week 1 review-Defending champion Dolan up and running

Brendan Dolan got the defence of his title off to the best possible start by claiming the first place in the grand final , by coming out on top of a competitive field of 39. Treacherous weather conditions in other parts of the country meant the weekly average of players was down on what normally would have turned up but those that did were treated to some outstanding darts.

The last four saw Brendan Dolan make the final at the expense of Richard Reid and Sean McGowan defeat Aodhagen O'Neill to meet him there. And those who were lucky enough to watch on from the lounge were treated to a fine match as Sean kicked off with back to back maximums followed by a 125 ( just under the wire on dart number 7 of the 9 dart attempt) leaving him on a 10 darter ( finished in 12) to take the lead. Brendan levelled after missing d18 for a 156 kill. Hitting the d9 with his next throw. With his confidence growing Brendan went one better in Leg 3 by leaving and scooping up another 156 (t20 t20 d18) to seize the advantage and he made his 11th consecutive final night by taking the match 3-1 although Sean lost nothing in defeat and looks like the man to beat in week 2 on this evidence as the 2013 tournament got off to an excellent start.

45 Players took part in the second heat of Eamons piano bar tournament on another great night highlighted again by excellent finishing. The last 8 saw Campbell Jackson , fresh from gaining his PDC tour card defeat Paddy Reilly. Pauric Walsh beat Steven Ganley. Richard Reid beat Eamon McGovern and in the best match of the night , John Joe Dolan getting the better of Sean McGowan. McGowan came from 2-0 down to level, and then hit a 123 to leave Tops with Dolan on 157. However Dolan was up to the task , taking out the combination to progress. In the semi finals John Joe was again in top form beating Pauric Walsh and in the other Jackson booked his place with a win over Ritchie Reid.
In the final , Jackson took the first leg to seize the initiative. Dolan levelled on D10 before rattling in a super 13 dart leg to lead. After 12 darts Dolan was sitting on 101 in the next leg , and with Campbell closing in behind him he took out another big 3 dart outshot to take the match in 15 darts and book his customary place in finals night.

With the snow storm brewing outside 40 gathered for week 3 of Eamons Piano bar tournament which produced the usual good standard of darts on the night. An illustration of the standard was a second round encounter between Micheal Timoney and Sean McGowan , arguably a shade unlucky not to have already booked his final place.. Despite 11 and 15 dart legs from Micheal it was Sean who progressed with both players having missed match darts. It was the break mcGowan needed and he duly began another run to the final defeating Steven Ganley and Colin Maxwell along the way. The semi final against Maxwell was perfectly poised at 2-2 when Sean fired in 123, 125 , 140 , 97 in the decider to leave himself D8 which he duly hit at the second time of asking to reach the decider. Campbell Jackson is another player who is in great form on the Irish darts circuit and he showed in flashes the kind of darts that has earned him a PDC tour card beating Pat McDonald and Peter Savage in the quarter and semi finals to book his place, but it was going to be McGowans night.

A nervy first leg went to McGowan , then a few nicely timed tons left him with D16 to break at 2-0. It was not Jacksons final , unable to repeat the darts that had took him there and McGowan, in his "Lucky" red shirt picked out some good cover shots, taking the last leg in 16 darts to book his final place. Sean has the Nations cup coming up in the next few weeks over in holland and looks in good form ahead of that important international fixture , while Campbell Jackson will be on duty in his first PDC tour event and shouldn't be long before booking his place in finals night.

Campbell Jackson was the winner in week 4 , booking his place in final night having had more than a scare or too along the way. 40 players turned up on the night to compete and the last eight saw Campbell defeat Paul Boyle, Pauric Walsh beating James McAdam, Richard Reid beating Aodhagen O 'Neill and Michael Healey getting the better of Darragh Healey . In the semi final Campbell won 3-1 after Pauric had given a good account of himself, finishing off on 75 (17 , 18 d20) whilst in the other Semi Richard Reid missed a dart at D10 to reach the final. Michael advancing by taking out 50.

In the final Jackson took the first before michael levelled up on tops aided by two 140's in the leg in 17 darts. Campbell took the next in the same amount of darts to edge ahead but the drama was to come in the last leg when Michael had a slipped dart when on 42 .Instead of hitting 10 it ended up in D15 , which was enough to knock him of his rhythm and he missed 2 darts at d16 to advance to a decider , Campbell advancing to Finals night 3-1, but credit to Michael Healey on the night, the Sligo thrower is a regular visitor to this tournament and if he can retain his form could well be in a good position to take one of the remaining 4 final night spots.

Clonoe thrower Mickey Mansell was the qualifier from the fifth night of Eamons piano bar tournament. 45 players took part on the night , keeping a good weekly average of over 40 players so far for each heat. In the semi finals , Mickey beat Michael Timoney and Michael Healey , bidding to go one better than last week defeated James McAdam 3-2 in the other semi .

Mickey has been a regular finalist in this tournament and he booked his place in finals night with a hard earned win over Michael Healey .

With just 3 places left in finals night the competition Is starting to hot up and Michael Healey will be amongst the favourites to end a streak of loosing finals and claim a place in finals night.

47 players took part in the 6th heat of the tournament and it was Derry thrower Daryll Gurney , who made the journey to Co.Cavan a worthwhile one as he came out on a night of brilliant darts in Eamons. Last Week both James Mc Adam and Michael Timoney were beaten semi finalists , this week they met in a preliminary round!, and the draw would throw up some brilliant action with the likes of Aodhagen O'Neill and the aforementioned Gurney floating dangerously.

The last 8 saw Eamon McGovern beating Paul Maguire, Colin Brady getting the better of JR Doherty, Daryll Gurney beating Martin Reilly and newcomer Declan mcGuinn overcoming Aodhagen O'Neill in a pulsating match. McGuinn a well known player in the Sligo area with plenty of county experience had caught a few players on the hop with some good scoring and lethal finishing and he squared up to PDC newcomer Gurney in the second semi, Eamon McGovern booking his place in the decider with a 3-1 win over Colin Brady.
McGuinn took the first leg with a nice finish but Daryll levelled up in 15 darts. Then a well timed burst of 140s saw the Derry man open an advantage at 2-1 and he eventually crept over the line , but Declan emerges from the night with credit and would hold a major chance of a final spot if he appeared in similar form over the last two weeks.

In the Final Daryll signalled his intent by taking the first leg in 15 darts and then a maximum in the second paved the way for a 14 dart leg in the second. Eamon rallied slightly and hauled back a leg with a 96 finish but Gurney showed all the form that has carried him onto the PDC circuit and he clinched a final spot with another 14 dart leg finishing with some tidy match figures of 98.

Aodhagen O'Neill grabbed the second last spot in Eamons piano bar tournament to set up one hell of a final night of darts as he denied the again unlucky Michael Healey in a thrilling Final.

38 players took part with Pauric Walsh and Sean Fleming travelling from outside of Galway as the furtherest travellers on the night , emphasising the popularity and infamy of the tournament and Sean proved his worth in Round one , dispatching 2010 finalist , Eamon McGovern in a pulsating match, setting up a last 16 encounter with co traveller Pauric Walsh and it would be Walsh , a previous semi finalist here this season who would advance to the quarters where he set up a semi Final with Aodhagen O'Neill by defeating Glen Gordon. O'Neill booking his place with a win over Noel Reilly. The other two quarter finals saw Michael Healey beating Darragh Healey and Paul Boyle getting the better of Steven Ganley.

In the semis Michael reached his third final of the year by dispatching Paul Boyle and Aodhagen O'Neills experience carried him to his first final of the year at the expense of Pauric Walsh who would be one of a few players well capable of taking the last remaining final spot next week.

In the final Michael took a 1-0 lead before Aodhagen levelled up. Michael went ahead again and looked like he was going to end his final hoodoo, but O' Neill who had reached a final on Sunday in Drogheda only to run into an inspired Keith Rooney took the game to a deciding leg. Michaels hopes would be dashed once more as back to back 140's left O'Neill on 74 , and he took it out for a 15 dart leg and a place in a final night which could well be dubbed " a who's who of Irish darts".

One more week to go now and the competition should be fierce with plenty of players who will fancy their chances of reaching final night but as our onlooking friend Sean McGowan pointed out , it will be very much a similar case of that of his three travelling companions who accompanied him last night to Blacklion and to many's a darting event over the past few decades - The last of the Summer Wine!.

Michael Healey is due a change of fortune and along with Pauric Walsh will be amongst the favourites to take the last final spot.

Irvinestown darter Eamon McGovern reached the grand final on a night of drama in Eamons Piano bar tournament where the last of the heats attracted 46 players.

Mc Govern reached the grand final last year and was unlucky to run into an inspired Brendan Dolan , and after some tough draws in the weekly heats he finally reached Grand Final night with , in the end , something to spare .
The Quarter finals saw the unlucky Micheal Healey lose out to Anthony Mullarkey, Eamon McGovern beating Steven Ganley. Paul Maguire getting the better of Raymond Mulvey, and Gordon Burleigh defeating Pat McDonald.

In the Semis Eamon , yet to lose a leg on the night, kept that record intact defeating Anthony Mullarkey 3-0 whilst an All Fermanagh affair ( a rare enough occurrence in the latter stages this season) saw Gordon Burleigh beating Paul Maguire 3-2 with a vital D8.
Gordon opened up the final with shots of 128,140 and 118 to leave 115 finishing eventually in 15 to take the first leg of Eamon all night. Kicking off the next throw with a 140 it was looking good for Gordon, however Eamon counteracted with a 135 and it was as good as it got for Gordon as Eamon broke to level and took the next in a nervy leg. Gordon had a dart at tops to make it 2-2 in the 4th but it was Eamon on D8 who sealed his place in the Grand Final and he will be hoping to go one further than last season and lift the grand prize next Monday night.

Mickey Mansell from Clonoe , Co.Tyrone claimed the 2013 Title after a truly amazing night of darts in Eamons Piano Bar in Co Cavan.

A huge crowd gathered on the night where a crack unit of Ireland's best players had qualified through 8 tough weeks culminating in what is being described as one of the best final nights in the history of the tournament. The Quarter Final results were:

Mickey Mansell 4 Eamon mcGovern 0
A disappointing end for week 8 qualifier and last years runner up , but a sign of things to come from Mansell.

Daryl Gurney 4 Sean McGowan 0
The Derry man progressing through to the semi final at the expense of Irish International McGowan.

Campbell Jackson 4 John Joe Dolan 3
In one of the games of the night Jackson made the semi final in a last leg thriller at the expense of the unlucky John Joe.

    Brendan Dolan 4 Aodhagen O'Neill 3
Another thriller as defending champion Dolan edges through to another semi final.

    Semi - Finals

Mickey Mansell 5 Daryll Gurney 4
The match of the night saw Daryll take what looked like a match winning 4-1 lead but Mansell threw probably some of the best darts of his career so far to win 4 straight Legs and win 5-4 . The comeback from Mansell saw him twice throw six perfect darts culminating in 10 and 11 dart legs.

Campbell Jackson 5 Brendan Dolan 4
Another brilliant match and it was Jackson who ended Dolans reign as champion as he took out some great finishes to deny the Belcoo thrower. Despite an 11 dart leg from Dolan it was Jackson who took the decider to progress to the final.

    [BGrand Final[/B]

Mickey Mansell 6 Campbell Jackson 2

In a repeat of the 2011 Semi Final Mickey Mansell Claimed the title when he proved too good for Campbell Jackson in the grand final, and he gave an awesome display to round of what has been a brilliant tournament. In winning 6-2 Mansell hit 13, 13, 14, 15, and 13 dart legs to break the brave resistance of Jackson in possibly one of the the best ever displays in a grand final.

The final night produced 16 180's and the biggest crowd to watch the action ever. It was literally shoulder to shoulder in the venue. The organisers would like to thank all the players and supporters who took part in the event and hope that in 2014 the word spreads further and the tournament grows bigger next year.
