Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Albinoleffe.

Play in 3rd division in Italy, third from bottom currently. Suffer famously weak attendance figures, so you'd notice a bunch of Irish guys at a game.

They play in Bergamo - served by Ryanair.

It should be a national team if anything. Our own has grown stale and monotonous and no doubt another country would benefit greatly from an injection of some of the best fans in the world.

I think this could work - but it simply couldn't be an Irish club (many already affiliated with one, lack of access to game coverage etc, wouldn't make sense for a Sligo man to support Derry City etc.) or an English club (vast majority already support one)

I think a team from a big European division would be a good idea. Ideally this would be a struggler/over achiever and not a powerhouse, but I think it's a good idea. It would expose boards members to different leagues and different styles of football, expanding their knowledge of the game.

MNS is on each Monday(incl when theres full fixtures on a Monday:rolleyes: ). So there is access to matches. And its mainly on Friday, goes on over the summer, and gives a chance for people to attend matches. People can meet up if they want for further socialising. I think its win-win, and wont be starting mid-season.

How about a South American team? The Copa Liberatadores is about to start up again. I followed the Copa Sudamericana very closely in 2011 and was on the Uni De Chile bandwagon from an early stage. They played some great stuff especially at home and went on to win the competition.

Alot of teams have a 'park the bus' mentality so It would be important to pick a good attacking team, and not one of the household names.

Could make for a bit of interest and something to follow between here and the end of the season? Thoughts?

What about MLS for those who dont follow the LOI they have football interest then over the summer aswell.

Games are on ESPN and soon the new BT channels and you will find streams, also there is an app with a good highlight section for each game

Was thinking this last night actually, that or perhaps a Seria A Brazilian club since ESPN cover both. Covers the summer months too when the forum is a bit quiet albeit for transfer news really if not an international cup, late night viewing can be a killer for many though. As someone who watches far too much east coast NBA games for my own good, got to say the tip off (and likewise KO times for the footy) take a lot of you and might put people off.

edit - probably something I won't get on myself, as I follow NY Red Bulls games, especially during the summer and will get to a fair few games this upcoming season. Don't really follow or support a Brazilian club though it must be said.

How about Malaga? Serviced well by Ryanair, bitta sun, booze and footie for the lads. Nice town, cheap accommodation, and a chance to see Barca/Real/whoever you are having yourself play once a year

I propose the Ivory coast, a small tweak in the way we present our flags and we're quids in.

I was following Montréal Impact last season and they had some nice early evening kick off times like kick off at 6-7pm our time

At 90% of games in Italy below Serie A you'd notice a group of Irish considering the attendances are ****e and most are dodgy hooligan-lookalikes ;)

That's a big problem for LoI. Very difficult for a Kerry person to support a team called Cork, a Meath person to support a Dublin or Louth team or even a Mullingar person to support Athlone, etc. Far easier to follow a team from a different land because you haven't got that inbuilt hatred that you have for a neighbouring town or county!

Malaga already have a fairly significant ex-pat presence in their support who go by the name of 'Guiri Army' (Guiri is a slightly derogatory Spanish term for the typical blonde, pale, Northern European tourist). If you look closely at the stands in their next home game you should be able to see a fairly big St. George's Cross one of the upper tiers.

My suggestion would be U.D. Salamanca. The club was set up by Irish students and the city itself is a very picturesque student town with cracking nightlife. You can get a litre of Rum and Coke and have change from a fiver, and there's pretty much always some sort of session somewhere from Wednesday through until Sunday. One of my friends is president of a fan club and runs a bar in the city (called Murphy's Law), and I'm sure he'd be willing to provide some free booze too. The city is about 2 and a half hours from Madrid and an hour from Valladolid airports.

The team are currently in the Segunda B, in the same group as everybody's beloved Oviedo. They were in La Liga as recently as the nineties and notched up famous victories like this one.

They have a small, but dedicated support. Their home games average about 5,000 but they regularly bring 500+ to away games, which in Spain is huge.

They nearly went out of business in November, but their short-term future has since been secured and there are strong rumours that a partnership of original Ronaldo and Jorge Mendes want to invest in the club.

The support of a random internet forum in Ireland is just what this proud club needs to bring it back to the glory days.

    Torino.

Back in the Serie A after a few years out, had the famous Il Grande Torino team which swept all before them in the late 1940's before being destroyed in the Suprega disaster. As the two clubs with the most supporters here have both experienced tragedies this something that everyone here can identify with.

I took over them in FM 08 and won the lot, including five serie A's so they're my favourite Italian team. Streams are easy to find, they have a fierce rivalry with Juventus and Turin is a lovely spot, very easy to get to. They have a very localised support and are considered Turin's team while Juve have a countrywide support. Lovely Claret jerseys too.

They have a nice team, in particular Angelo Ogbonna the classy centre half of Nigerian origin who is breaking into the Italian team at the moment. Xavi6, remember Rolando Bianchi? He's club captain and has 65 league goals for Torino since he joined back in 08.

If this idea is gonna take off it has to be a team in the lower reaches of the big European, or South American leagues, with regular information and available streams. Otherwise people will lose interest.

Ah yes, the witty third option (Atari Jaguar etc.)
How about everyone who doesn't support a LOI team adopts a LOI team, their local or one to which they have an affiliation.

Every week when their team plays they go to the games and then when they are home, they talk about their new adopted team in their respective forums and in the dedicated LOI superthreads.

That way, everyone gets to support who they want, the LOI clubs gets a boost and we're all happy at the end of the day with a new team to support.

    Problem solved,
    you're welcome

But you'll have the exact same people that would support Dublin Celtic if they were allowed enter the English leagues?

This, like actually. Separate poll to decide between the foreign or domestic idea?

The only way I could hate this idea more is if Shams, Werder Bremen or TSG Hoffenheim were the team picked.
