Tbh you have every right to have your doubts, The Supreme is not a race for favourites since we had 3 in a row in '02, '03 & '04! We've seen the likes of Sweet Wake (sweet Jesus! :() Cue Card and Dunguib beaten when 'good things'. I'm a big MTOY fan and have been since Huntingdon but even I am wary of going in heavy in the opener due to recent renewals.

I won't hear a word said against Sweet Wake. Absolute monster. :)

im not knocking my tent he clearly is a very good horse but id just like to have seen him have to battle in a couple of races i just couldnt back him at his price 4/1 i might be tempted but im happy with un atout at 20s

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

The difference with MTOY and some of the other hot pots turned over is that (apart from Cue Card) most hadn't run outside novice company so were bubbles waiting to be burst. MTOY has proven himself in a competitive handicap and also in a big field which he'll get again in the supreme

While I'd be looking for an each way horse against him rather than steam into a short priced horse in the opener (and if I don't find one its probably no bet) I'm not sure we can compare MTOY to some of the other supposed "good things". He's rated 160+ already which even if its a few lbs too high would surely be good enough to win an average renewal of the supreme

Do you really think there are at least three novices who would have ''hacked up'' in that?
well as i said jezki and un atout id have no doubt would have hacked up in my humble opinion:)

jezki had a workout on monday at leopardstown and did not impress. you will see him drift very soon as the green and gold boys get stuck into MTOY.

just read on sporting life site that cheltenian runs in the supreme

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Suarez20

judging by entries we could have a max of 13/14 runners!

I think he is a massive price at 33/1 for this.

Which novice race will Annie Power run in,with the mares allowance should have a good each way chance in whichever one she goes in!!!

I doubt she will go to Cheltenham. She's entered in the Neptune.

Just backed Cheltenian at 33/1. Think it is cracking each way value.

i agree also took the 33/1 e/way with sky bet paying on the first 4 places

Cheltenian is a horse I like alot and he is a class act, two things that would put me off backing him in this are the very real possibility the horse bounces and secondly he's lack of experience over hurdles.

Agreed. At 33/1 though I just thought he was worth an e/w bet. He'll be half that price on the day I reckon.

It's a race i just can't pick out anything i fancy really. I am going to back him e/w also looks great value.

Mullins seems to be leaning towards the Supreme with Champagne Fever. Think he has a great chance and I'd be pretty confident he can turn around the form with Jezki. Super price at the moment.

I backed him each way at 16's no runner no bet.

He may run in the Albert Bartlett though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

I couldn't have Champagne Fever in the Supreme. Is it not the owner that wants to run him in the supreme. He'd be much better suited to the Neptune/Abert Bartlett but the owner already has both favourites for those races.

He would be better suited to the Albert Bartlett. I agree.

ya definitely hes always looked a 2m4f to 3m horse

but if it is soft, in the supremem its an endless gallop from start to finish that it will ride as if its 2m 4! i think at the moment if its softer champagne is a good ew bet and if better ground pique sous ew! cheltanian is another at good prices!

Is anyone buying the line on Un Atout being a horse for next year and a long term project,he has looked brilliant sluicing up on stiff tracks like navan and naas surely hes worth a bet ew.

Hard to know. Have him backed myself but leaning towards Melodic now for the big bet.

Not buying it at all..I think it could be a tactic to take any pressure of Davy..he can be very hard on himself and I suspect he doesn't want all the questions about him.
Despite my my much publicised concerns on his experience I can't find another horse other than him an dodging bullets I want to back. MtOy too short. Jezki and champagne fevers form fell apart with bright new dawn and wahebs recent performances. The only other viable option is melodic rendezvous. Not one horse he has beaten is entered in the supreme..that tells a tale of its own. I'm splitting my stake with dodging bullets and un atout

Champagne Fever blue across the boards

More likely CF will go for the Albert Bartlett i'd say but I think Ruby will be on a Mullins horse regardless, be it CF, Pique Souis or Mozaltov. A few have said he wont ride Dodging Bullets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

If CF goes for the Supreme, then surely thats a wee tip in itself that both PA and Ballycasey must have smashing chances in their respective races.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 711 ✭✭✭battser

Ruby on Champagne for the supreme with the weather looking to deliver soft ground.

Just stuck my VC 50 join bet on the nose at 12's with their supreme offer its a bet to nothing and ruby on board will mean he will shorten. Good chance and a great bet for anyone who has not opened a VC account.

As much as I like Champagne fever I'd be dissapointed if he won a supreme, hes a 3 mile chaser running over hurdles, they werent even going to go hurdling with him at all, beating bright new dawn isnt supreme winning form on his last run either,I think he'll go out in front and try stretch them out like in the bumper but i'd be shocked if he wasnt beaten by speedier horse over the last.

Champagne still a huge price. Great value IMO. Time for Colours to the mast. Was a big Puffin Billy fan. Prep interrupted, now Neptune. I will be backing Melodic Rendezvous ew.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,162 ✭✭✭Backstreet Moyes

William Hill going 5 places i think great value in Cheltenian at 25s.

I know someone already said this but seems like it's official now about Walsh on Champagne Fever. Nicholls just said it at the Sandown Cheltenham Preview according to the RP website.

River Maigue another chemical Nicky special out to 32 on BF and not a penny trying to back it.

Will Geraghty get back on Jezki I wonder?

Definitely not. He'll definitely be on River Maigue and he'll have no say in the matter. He's Henderson's retained rider.

I suspect Robbie Power will be on Jezki

Was River Maigue left in the county hurdle the other day by any chance?

They'll jock him off for Geraghty if trainer has any serious intentions of getting the best out of his horse!
