the Tourist catch phrase round here is "Sligo is surprising"

Be careful... you dont want an unexpected surprise!!

Get up that mountain Girl and less of your sleeping in late...

an unexpected surprise is getting up by 10am

ah i'll be up and out and about... and its nice to be in no way concerned about the weather. No plans as such so if it's rotten out we can rap up heading out and dont have far to go to eat/drink/shop by the sounds of things!

... Are there many shops ????

May I ask, my father keeps mentioning a 'lovely statue' of a 'man on a horse' on a hill on the way into sligo.

we were wondering if anyone knew anything about it?

I went out with a girl that moved to Sligo.

Between us we had never been there but had such a fantastic time exploring.

I would go as far as to say its one of my favorite counties in the country.

    It has it all..

fantastic beaches, lovely scenery, great pubs.

Ive been back loads since (not with the same girl though :D)

...... and ya never bumped into the ex down there after that?

    Ha ha!!..

no I didnt.. she had moved on also....:D

my favorite pubs in town are McGarrigles / Shoot the Crowes and Fureys.

I think a visit to Yeats Grave is a must.. " cast a cold eye on life and death.. horsemen pass by" !!

Also, I bleedin love Strandhill The strand bar is a great spot.
Rosses point is also a favorite.. Austies (I think its called) is a great little place for food..

and if all that is not enough head on up past Yeats grave and in 20 minutes your in Bundoran !!

Jaysus, I cant wait to go back!!

Hope it wasn't the romantic weekend to Sligo that caused the argument to crash the car

    Sadderday????

    Was that what happened??????

    Hi All,

Sorry for very late reply... Huge issue which put the trip up in the air for a couple of days but we went and this is how we got on....

2 kms from Sligo town as we arrived the car alternator had a problem. The car was dropped to Skoda garage and fixed, we were chauffered to and from the garage by the lads there. Took all the 3 days that we were there to fix so we had no car!!!

We checked in at the Glasshouse and we were impressed with our room which had 2 balconies and endless facilities.

Had a stroll about and found a great italian eatery, Bistro Bianconi, ate there twice, loved the atmosphere. €60 for two good meals, wine, dessert and starter shared. Stuffed so great value there.
Found a great bakery in beside tesco too.

Weather was nice and so central so we popped over to mcgarrigles for a drink-it's very intimate in there, had a drink in Fureys and Shenanigans. Had a couple of drinks in the glasshouse (expensive) although in fairness I had been the only female in the bar that evening and had spent most of the evening getting a drunk woman off the toilet floor and up to her room... the kind barman then kept pouring drinks on the house for my trouble!

So when we got the car back we went straight to Strandhill, what an amazing place. Went into the Voya place and had a bath of seaweed ?? €35 for two people... strange - meant to be good for the skin? I'm not sure but got a giggle out of it. Watched the sunset and had a steak sandwich in a pub out there.

Did a bit of shopping around and found the people very friendly. We had hoped to do a bit more travelling around though. In comparison we went to Galway from Sligo and we both found that Sligo was more accomodating to couples. Checked out Salthill but it doesn't have a patch on Strandhill and would pack up and live there tomorrow if I could !
All in all, it was a romantic trip, loved the grub, loved strandhill, the people were pleasant, shopping was good, easy to get around with everything you need on your doorstep.

    I think I shall be back !

It was the Bizzz, great spot. even for take out. SO busy in there but in the best way, its a lovely atmosphere... never been in a place like it. We happily sat with a glass of vino waiting for a table while yapping to the staff about Sligo pubs !!

    What a spot ! :)
