This spinoff is almost guaranteed a series pickup....with the cast they have and i fully expect Claire Holt to join its a sure fire thing:

Another Vampire Diaries standout is headed to the potential spinoff series. Daniel Gillies is set to star opposite Joseph Morgan and Phoebe Tonkin in The Originals, which will be introduced as an upcoming episode of Vampire Diaries that will air April 25, serving as a potential backdoor pilot.

No question in my mind this will be picked up to series, I wonder if will air after TVD or on Tuesadys?....so it can boost that night, CW have Wednesdays and Thursdays covered, they lack strong shows on Monday/Tuesday.

I liked the "pilot" especially as it is set in New Orleans and Hayley pregnant by Klaus is an interesting if shocking plot, looks like Klaus and Caroline relationship wont be happening as he has Hayley and new character Camille in this show to keep him happy :P

I watched the first episode last night. I have never seen The Vampire Diaries but but I really enjoyed this.

Unlike the Stefan/Elena/Damon love triangle though Klaus has no romantic feelings for Hayley

I think when Klaus and Hayley hooked up he alluded to knowing her real parents but that was it, Hayley was only shown on TVD as Tyler's friend

After 7 episodes aired stateside i have to say this is already looking twice the show TVD is. I think the writing is getting stronger as it progresses, and the overall arc is much better. Also have to say while Klaus might have been the best character in TVD Elijah has that sown up here.

Yes it is defo better than TVD now for me, I quite like Marcel now too (of course besides the fabulous Klaus and Elijah) so glad The CW has picked the show up for a full season now

It reminds me a lot of early seasons TVD with one brother being complete dick and the other brother just accepting it because they are siblings and that excuses everything. Is Klaus more powerful than Elijah? because he certainly seems to kick him around alot.

Just watched all of the Vampire Diaries and The originals since the summer started and I'm definitely a bigger Originals fan.

Klaus is just so engaging though I still hope him and Caroline will happen at some point.She's my favorite TVD character.
