Stephen Spielberg was in town (Dublin) at the weekend for the Premier of "Lincoln" and guess what, that cute Kerryman, and Minister for Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht was quick out of the blocks for his constituents...

The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht is very hopeful that a movie about the Liberator Daniel O’Connell will be made.
Minister Jimmy Deenihan met with influential Hollywood Director Steven Spielberg and Actor Daniel Day Lewis yesterday when they were in Dublin for the premier of their latest film, Lincoln.
Minister Deenihan spoke with Mr Spielberg who was aware of Daniel O’Connell.
He gave him a book about the Derrynane man who was responsible for Catholic emancipation and who has influenced many other world leaders.

Think any of our TDs planks reminded him of his stated desire to make a 1798 blockbuster?

There's a big, better movie waiting to be made about 1798 than could possibly be made about Daniel O'Connell, and the book exists with facts and figures to beat the band. I wonder is it possible that somebody in Wexford could send Spielberg a copy?

Our Wexford representatives are always slow out of the blocks .

Probably finishing off their pints in the Dail bar.

Its an interesting idea for a blockbuster , and might happen on the anniversary in the year 2098

Doubt I'll be about to see it then unless I'm in Cryogenic storage. :D

Knowing our Gob****es If a Movie was to be made about 1798 and Vinegar hill as soon as it was finished filming the props would be dismantled and nothing left to attract tourists. Look what was left after the filming of Saving Private Ryan in Curracloe that attracts the thousands of tourists there every year to spend money in the area. NOTHING.

The locals didn't want anything left, the usual "get off my land attitude".One prominent Curracloe resident has quite a few props & vehicles from the movie though.

As JD said,an opportunity missed by our representatives (AGAIN).

That was part of the agreement with the Curracloe locals before filiming started that nothing would remain and the area would be left the way it was before filmimg began.

Its a pity as a Vistors center/Souvenir shop, restaurant plus tours of the props and set would amass badly needed income and tourists to the area. The Higgins boat that was left beside the Italian restaurant just rotted away as far as i know.

Jebus, no chance of a movie now that that gob****e actually spoke to SS and DDL. They'll have ran a mile now.

    He's nothing but a gombeen.
