    Is this strange???

My lovely, gorgeous BF & I are planning on a trip to the west of Ireland for a week or so.

He had a great love once in Galway and when he mentioned we go to Galway City I cringe!!

I love Galway but I am afraid that our trip may be tainted by lost love and vacant memories.

    Am I nuts????????????????????????????????????????????????

I'm 99.9% sure I am. Poor Bloke!! How do I just get on with this?

It';; be grand but if you're worried just go and make better memories sure

yeah true that... not worried, nothing to worry about really,,,, just a bit sad that it's a place that meant something to him at one time. Would rather go somewhere new!!, might have to get over that though

    GET OVER IT!
Does he talk a lot about his old love from Galway? I'd guess not, but rather he said it once or twice in the past.
I don't think ye'll be walking around and he'll be going 'here's where we used to have picnics, here's where we had our first kiss'.

Was that great love "Buckfast" by any chance?

If so he may be covering up a deep sordid past full of repressed memories.

If ye keep ending up down by the Spanish Arch, run, run for the hills........

To answer the title of your thread -am I crazy?....well, yes, avoiding a city because your boyfriend has an ex who lives here is a little crazy!!!! Just come to Galway and make your own memories with him!
If everyone avoided places their exes came from or where they'd been with exes, very few people would travel anywhere!!!

    Yes, a little.

But anything is better than being straight and boring. You'll fit right in.

I reckon green eyes by the sound of this thread. :D

Sheesh if none of us ever went places where our currents have ex's, the tourism industry would grind to a halt.

A quick shift down the Long Walk whilst watching the sunset will sort ya out something fierce.

The only way to stop associating bad memories with a place is to create good memories there, so yes you're nuts:D.

Relax, it's absolutely fine. Sure his ex is probably fat and manky looking now and doesn't remember him anyway.

Or gorgeous and obsessed with him.

Could be fun finding out. Let us know how it goes.

Another vote for you being crazy here!

If he was still hung up on the ex or still nursing a broken heart over painful memories there's no way he'd be suggesting a return visit. The logical analysis here is that he liked the place itself ,it's pretty great in fairness, and wants to share it with YOU.

There's also small chance he thinks you're a fantastic upgrade on his Galway girl and he's bringing you back to rub it in her face.

    Either way you win!
If you don't come to Galway you'll be missing out.

If I were him, and I saw this thread, I would bin you.

men are simpler creatures than you think.
relax, go out and have a good time and ride the bejaysus out of him and he will have so many brand new memories about Galway (and you!) that his ex will never enter his thoughts. simples.
