Range, power, energy, efficiency to name a few reasons.

    .22lr
    • Maximum effective range on fox - 100 yards.
    • Hugely effected by wind
    • Serious drop from 50 to 100 yards (average of 6-7 inches)
    • Ammo has very little energy, and drops significantly over every 10 yards.

    .223
    • Ranges out to 600+ yards with factory ammo
    • Less wind drift
    • Drops less over 250 yards than a .22 would over 75- 100.
    • Carries 3-4 times the impact energy. More depending on ammo choice.

The advantages of a .22lr over a .223 is cheaper ammo, better fun, use in competitions.

    Jsust my opinion of course.

    Also shot placement..

    Big issue with the .22

223 not so much.. sent a 55gr vmax up a foxes arse the other day and it dropped him on the spot..

a .22 would have been a bad injury for a fox at the range..

Funny enough bar neck shots I dont really see much damage.. they break up so quick inside.. if you shake them they sound kind of like a water bottle mind.

American eagle hollow points leave a nasty hole.. Must try some soft points for the craic..

That photo just about sums the difference.

    Horses for courses
22lr just the job for corvids and rabbits
    223 anything/everything else (not deer)

a 22lr would have to be a very precise head shot at any range ,i once tryed to shoot a fox with a 22lr at about 30yrds and guess what he ran like fcuk ,i realised then that i will never ever take another shot at a fox unless its a guaranteed head shot at close range but if i do get the chance of a fox at short range id prefer to use the shotty
