There's no way there will be an essay just on Stalin's show trials, too small a topic, it'd fall under a essay like "how did Stalin create a totalitarian state?" if it was.

alri, just we were told show trails, but i agree, 2 pages in the book on it, way to small for an essay

"Stalin's show trials were just one element of his totalitarian regime. Discuss"

If I were you I'd avoid the case study questions all together. Very difficult to flesh them out to the expected four pages or so, unless your writing with sufficient external knowledge. (As in additional information not in the book) For Stalin I'd suggest learning,

    - The troika formed between himself, Zinoviev and Kamenev following Lenin's death, and how they dealt with Trotsky. (Socialism In One Country V Permanent Revolution. etc.)
    - The Five Year Plans and their effects on Soviet Industry.
    - The Five Year Plans and their effects on Soviet agriculture. (Kulaks, forced relocations)
    - Purges, Gulags and the NKVD.
    - The Show Trials.
    - The Cult of Stalin.
    - Possibly a few quotes from the likes of Bukharin, Trotsky or whomever to put in the essay.

    Hope it helps!
