The above brings you to the main search page.

    What course is it?

If you're starting off from scratch in studying accountancy I wouldn't think you'd have to register with an accountancy body first.

You won't have to register to an accounting body. Most accountancy bodies have their own exams you have to complete before you can join. Sometimes they outsource to various IT's or Uni's but this isn't one of them. Maybe look up the IATI as an example and see where they have their lectures. This particular course will give you a Degree in Accountancy but not the right join or use the letters of the professional body.

Would I be better off registering with someone? Will it benefit me in the long run?

Depends on how much of the accountancy you want to get into. If this is your full time plan and you are determined to work as a full time accountant then you would benefit more having the professional qualification. If you plan to just stay on the business side and do general accounting for company/business the degree would probably suffice. According to the IATI site, Carlow IT offer it on a part time basis and the co-ordinator is Anne Meaney. Her detail are here. Give her a ring and she might be able to give you better advice.

On a side note, when you join a professional body, expect yearly fees for membership and each exam can range from €70+ whereas in a degree the college fees will be all you pay.
