Cost of "The Rat Pack in Gaiety compared to Belfast

    Was interested in going to see the show "The Rat Pack" which is running in Dublin until 2/2/13 and then in Belfast on the 5th. Feb. Was in Dublin last night and popped into the box office to get a ticket for last nights show...cost €49. Thought it was too expensive in view of the fact that is £25 in Belfast. Also if you are what is termed "friends" of the Opera House, Belfast, its two for the price of one. Well I was really disappointed but is'nt it a fact we are just ripped off down here in the south for concert tickets etc. Anyone any observations?

    Firstly vat rate UK on concerts = 6%, Ireland = 13.5%.

    Secondly, cost of renting the opera hosue in belfast is probably cheaper than the gaeity in Dublin.

    Thirdly, the cost of staffing these events is higher in Dublin cos in Ireland we pay people a resonable minimum wage unlike the UK where the minimum wage is barely liveable on.

    and finally, it is the performers themselves that decide the ticket prices and they take in all relevant costs to come to a price for that particular market.

    unfortunately it's like comparing apples and oranges .. I remember listening to a concert promotors on the radio before explaining the differences in costs between Dublin and Belfast for the same gig in terms of insurance .. in Dublin the insurance premium was in the region of €10,000 while in Belfast is was less than €1000 - this on top of VAT, Staffing costs etc will drive the price of the Dublin gig upwards
