Install a light from a socket?

Hi,

In my shed I have power sockets for the washing machine, dryer and boiler but there is no light. Is it possible to run power up from the socket or mains to a light? Is it difficult? I have some (but not much) experience with electrical equipment.

The correct thing to do would be to bring a lighting circuit out and run the light off that.

But in reality what nearly everyone does (my own shed/garage included) is run a "fused spur" off the socket and up to the light. The fused spur can be fitted with a 5A fuse and a normal light fitting used.

What most people will do is fit a switched fused spur just inside the door and use this to turn on/off the light. Something like this would do:-
