Sorry, didn't see your posts in time to give a useful answer but as you likely noticed the severe storms took one look at Chi-town and went around to the south. All the lake chilled air kept the hot, humid air mass from pushing north of the city. The outcome has been quite severe in areas across central to northern IL-IN-OH but in general the system has not been quite as severe as expected although it's not finished yet by any means. To the north of the tornadic frontal system is a second frontal system in Wisconsin and Michigan that is the focus for heavy rainfalls rather than strong winds. You spent most of the day between the two in a fog-laden drizzle with bursts of heavier rain from thunderstorms over top of the inversion. There could be a little action when the secondary cold front comes through around midnight (CDT).
