So True Movies has already switched over to Christmas movies!

Oddly the listings on the guide are for the usual melodrama but I just caught the end of a very Christmassy movie and The Christmas Miracle is starting now.

2 months earlier than last year. They must get a lot of success with the rebranding. My mum does be addicted to it.

I worked in M&S over Christmas. I was in Lingerie (:pac:) but I heard stories from Foods. On Christmas Eve people rolled under the shutters as they opened and security had to be called in from other shops because people were stealing things like goose fat from other people's trolleys.

And this post wins the Internet for me today ! That is hilarious hahaha stealing duck fat :p:D hahah

I worked in Dunnes one Christmas and there was an awful storm on Christmas eve. It was so bad that the power in the whole area was knocked out but the shopping centre had it's own generator so we were able to stay open. So as well as the usual Christmas eve rush, we also had hoards of people in buying candles/matches/torches/etc. We sold out of them within about an hour as lots of shops in the city had to shut early for safety reasons, the big plate glass in front of Roches Stores had shattered and the clock tower fell off Penneys. In the mid-afternoon the roof over our deli department caved in. But the manager somehow got an inspector out to say that other than cordoning off an area around the deli, we could stay open. About an hour before we were due to close a big hole was blown in the roof of the main mall. And this time we were told to shut up and evacuate as with two holes in the roof, it was a danger that the whole roof could lift.

We could not get customers to clear the store. People were roaring that they weren't finished shopping and needed candles. They just wouldn't believe that we didn't have them, meanwhile some of the younger staff were nearly in tears at the prospect of the roof caving in. The management and security had to escort people to the check-outs where all the staff had been pulled to, to get their shopping through. And there were still customers begging us to let them keep shopping and wanting us to somehow produce candles. I know that the prospect of Christmas without power is horrible but to be in a building where there is a real danger of the roof coming in should surely trump candles. Especially when we had no candles! And to top it off when we finally got the customers out, some of the managers tried to get us to finish our shift and clean the place. Oddly enough, we all walked out.

To the local pub which was thankfully powered by the same genny but had it's own roof, because we could hardly walk home in the storm! A few hours later the storm finally ended and walking home was a bit like the ending of a post-apocalyptical movie, with all the downed trees and walls. But like a little Christmas miracle as we walked the lights came back on and we had power for Christmas!

I ordered a gift for a friend and it arrived yesterday. I know she will love it. I'm worried I'm going to blurt out what I got her the next time I see her! This is why last minute buying might suit me better :o

Thank you ! Would you recommend it or would you plan another visit ? The lights look amazing !

I've booked it again for this year. I'd recommend it. Book a time when its dark for the ultimate effect. Its done in small prebooked groups so theres no queuing. When booking they ask you a few things about the child and Santa mentions them during the visit. Present was good too.

Iguana that was a brilliant story, I really enjoyed reading that!

I'm so excited that we're almost at back to school time, the next few months are gonna fly!

I'm getting married in September, and we'll arrive back from honeymoon in the middle of October. A few people have suggested we book a night away for after the honeymoon, to have something to look forward to. I'm just like "it's practically Christmas at that stage, I have that to look forward to!"

I read the post about the storm on Christmas Eve. Was that in 1997?
I remember when I was young and their was a really bad storm on Christmas Eve(I think it was 1997)and I thought I was going to get blown away. I spoke to my mother about it and the power went out for days for some people and they had no Christmas dinner and some people had to go to neighbors/family to cook theirs!

I received a few of the perfumes mentioned in this selection..... wouldn't use them as fly spray now! :D

Yeah it was '97. Sadly I think at least 1 ESB worker died trying to restore power that night which I always think about during outages.

Iguana's post about the storm and losing power reminded me of last Christmas Day morning. Our area had a power cut due to an electricity pole catching on fire. Thankfully it wasn't near any houses so no one was in danger. Anyway the ESB went out to repair it. According to them, the earliest that power would be restored would be 12:30pm. The power had gone off since 8:45am so it wasn't too long. They ended up fixing the pole and restoring power to the whole area by 10am. We only ended up being an hour behind on roasting the turkey, or so we thought. The turkey we had was slightly smaller than expected so it took less time to cook, meaning we still sat down for dinner when we had planned to in the first place before the power cut. :D Just one of those things that could have ended up in a bit of a disaster, thankfully worked out for the better. :)

    Iguana, was that the ashleaf?

Reminds me of my planes trains and automobiles trip home for the big snow Christmas. Short version below:
-First flight delayed, not so bad
-Second flight delayed in Abu Dhabi 14 hours.
-During the flight we are told we may actually be going to England not Ireland due to the weather.
-Get told that Dublin is open and we are currently beiginning our decent.
-Decent lasts ages and the captain tells us that we are actually in Shannon.
-Train to Dublin with a load of grannys going up to relatives as their pipes were frozen etc.
-Taxi couldnt get me all the way home so had a 28 kg suitcase on my head and hiked home.

Does anyone know anything about that Christmas Movie Drive In event? The venues were supposed to be announced and the tickets on sale last Friday but it seems that they don't even have venues arranged for it. And there is some poster that keeps saying it's a fake event. If it's a scam, you think they'd have announced fake venues and taken people's money as it seems a bit pointless otherwise. Or is there a way of making money from having loads of people like a Facebook page? I remember last year liking some page that was supposed to have cool Santa updates on Christmas eve, there were posts every few days on the lead up, then nothing at all on Christmas eve. This drive in thing is reminding me of it.

It's a pity if it's fake, I think it would have been a fantastic evening out. Especially if they'd shown something super Christmassy like Santa Claus the movie. There is a regular drive-in cinema in Cork. I wonder if it opens through the winter and will have a Christmas screening?

Iguana have u paid your money yet. It sounds very fishy doesn't it. I know they put up a post sayin venue announcements were running a bit late while they try find larger venue..I'm really keen to book but it's unorganised and it is making people question wether it is legit!

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

If you can get loads of likes on FB you can sell your page to someone who wants a following without the effort of building it themselves. That's usually the case with these pages.

I haven't paid anything, I don't think anyone has but it's made me seriously question it's legitimacy. I'm a bit suspicious that it's a scam, seeing as how Toto says they can make money from lots of likes.

I've done a bit of a search just now and last year there was a drive-in cinema in Tattersalls House in Meath at Halloween and after Christmas. So maybe it's a real thing but they are struggling with getting pre-Christmas venues? Last year Today FM sponsored the Halloween one and 98FM sponsored the Christmas one, so if tickets do go on sale it would be an idea to check if there are sponsors, if there are it's a great way to know if it's legit.
