I often find trees can look sparse in shops but when you get them home and there in a smaller room and have your own decorations/lights on them they look a lot better.

It does indeed go all the way to the ground. Yea we now keep presents away from the tree.

    Loughc, sorry I'm 10 hours late! :P

Wow just finished catching up on posts - this thread is brilliant for putting you in Christmassy mood!

Loughc, Christmas Eve was alright- not quite Christmassy but it is grand. Going to see Bad Moms 2 tonight though :D

Kitten, congrats on winning that class cake! Thank you for sharing photos of lights switch on in Dublin, can't wait to see it when I'm down in few weeks time :D

Jude, Santa Claus autobiography sounds awesome! Where did you get it?

Mystery egg, is it hard to make Christmas cake? Would love to make one but my attempt resulted in a very burnt cake many years ago lol would like to have another go this weekend though :D

My Disney decorations came today! :D Love them although a bit disappointed with Bella but never mind, will post photos tomorrow if anyone would like to see them. I'm half thinking about getting some more :P I finished my pre Christmas cleaning at the weekend and hope to get hubby's presents sorted on Black Friday! ;)

Someone mentioned the markets in Belfast, would it be good enough for a day run rather than overnight? :)

It's pretty much the only forum I post in too.

Offbeat Donuts have launched their Christmas donuts. I'm all over the Mint Chocolate, Irish Cream Liqueur and Lebkuchen.

Oh good God, I shouldn't have seen this.

    I'm a total donuts addict!
Love the sound of mince pie one and also Bailey's.
Will just have to sample them all, haha!

I’m currently watching the house directly across from me putting up their tree.

In fairness to them they put it up the same time last year. Either way it is on.

Also if you are currently putting up a tree we may be neighbors :D

Sorry I haven't been on in a while its been some week ! :p

Jude it must be some thing in the air I was on the way home from a hosp app on Thursday when an elderly woman hit the side of my car she pulled out from a side road onto the main road without even looking ! My poor car is in a bit of a state and the insurance assessor nearly lost his life when he seen the type of car I drive ( I don't speak car and driver but it's not very common here ).

And to end my week my youngest little guy is sick since Friday with what we were told was a viral infection and now been told it's scarlet fever :0 never even heard of it before !! But we are all housebound for the week so my eldest is delighted. Lots of decorating being done this week I think . We will be chilling with some christmas movies.

Heard we are expecting snow this weekend ! We can only hope ! :)

Disney Diva, I got the book on Amazon, I have gotten a few things sent home from there so I don't have to lug the in the luggage, Thankful I did that for a giant LOL ball, still no idea what it is.

Glitz Girl, sorry to hear about the accident. Hope it gets sorted quickly. My OH's car is in the garage now getting a new bumper, radiator and grill. There was no disputing the fault from the other person either and the police have done their report, so much time wasted out of the office. Anywho, have a rental now as my wife has take my car. So rallying that around for a bit.

Had more mulled wine last night, now its all gone :( Its bloody lovely, Jamie Oliver recipe from scratch. We both are not feeling the Christmas buzz last night and couldn't put on a Christmas movie. Just not feeling it at the moment. Maybe the madness of the weekend, crash and putting up the decs exhausted us. Need Christmas FM to come online and perk it all up.

Glitz, you certainly had a week of it! At least you have wee tree up so watch plenty films for some Christmas therapy ;) Think it is better than retail therapy! :P Hope all gets sorted with insurance asap and no one else get sick in your house :D

Jude, loads of parents seem to be going mad trying to find LOL ball here on FB so it is a miracle you got one ;)
Gonna check Jamie Oliver's recipe for mulled wine now..

Agreed, we have this tree, it's fab. My mother in law bought one in Woodies the week before we bought ours last year - she had tree envy when she saw ours :P It is quite low to the ground, but we can still fit our Christmas train under it! :D

This is probably going against the whole theme of this subforum, but am I the only one burned out over Christmas from working retail around that period?

I've not worked in retail for years but it's sucked the soul out of it for me. I'd love to be as cheery as you folks (like my GF is) but I can't seem to get into it. Christmas week yes, but other than that, nope.. :/

People working in retail over the Christmas have my upmost respect.

The manic shops, the rude customers and the crazy hours, it's a cocktail of sh!te, I can totally get how you'd be burnt out and fed up of it all by the time it comes around.

They best thing you can do is relax and enjoy the time you do get off more for it. That will help you get more in the spirit of things.

Dont miss those days so I know how you feel.

Having a proper break over the christmas now is definitely an eye opener to how tough it really was in retail with the long hours & working when everyone else is off having a ball of a time.

Thanks for all the mentions and wishes guys xx day one of house arrest and Mr glitz and the kids are already climbing the walls :p gonna be a long long week !

Omg ! Put up those pics of the disney decorations! You have to share those :) it's disney and christmas combined who doesn't like that lol.

Thanks for the compliments on the tree all :) . We normally color scheme rooms as such. Dining room always gold and some brown on tree rest of room decoration is always gold.

But thr sitting room is my favourite. It's always a really rich aubergine purple and glass / silver ! My favourite of the colors ! We actually have very little red decorations as such. But I love wearing red as soon as November hits ... go figure :pac:

For those who asked I put up pics of the dinner ware I got on plans and prep thread but I'll post one here too. X not to everyone's taste but I love them. Metallic gold leaf pattern on dinner plate and metallic gold pattern on side plate.

I feel sorry for people who work in retail especially those who have work in shops that at 5am on St.Stephens day!

Some great advice in the posts above. Unfortunately retail is a mix of being forced to celebrate Christmas early ( most shops play music / staff wear jumpers from mid November etc) and dealing with people who can be rude and rushed. It's not a nice mix. It can grate and wear you down.

Hard to do but if you try take the commercialism side out of christmas ( the shopping / decorations / crowds etc ) as your so over exposed to them while in a retail position and focus on the traditions or the personal aspects of what christmas means to you and a partner / family. Maybe try focus more on spending quality time together baking or watching christmas movies. I found that difference was really important when I worked christmas :) and u can always pop on here for a cheer up ! ;)

I worked in retail for ten years when I was younger the food side of things, I would have to work 14 hour days for the full two weeks before Christmas right up to 8 pm Christmas Eve and back to work the day after st Stevens day.
I used to hate Christmas and I swore I would never work retail again.
Most of my friends and girlfriend off for nearly two weeks and I would miss party’s and meeting up with friends.
By Christmas Day I would be totally wrecked tired and just knackered to enjoy it.
That’s why I really enjoy it now and go a little OTT

I'm having time off at Christmas for the first time since I was in secondary school! Finishing on 23rd and back to work on the 3rd. I'm taking Annual Leave and I can't wait.

Oh good god... I need them...

Actually speaking of Irish Cream Liqueur have Bailey stopped doing their Christmas Limited Editions flavors, their mint one from years ago, was well... mint.

Aldi do a pack of 3 half bottles. One Mint, one orange and I think the third one is caramel. All v tasty
