Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index for 2013 has ranked Israel No. 112 out of 179 countries – a plunge of 20 spots from the 2012 index and the lowest ranking the organization has ever given Israel.

Year after year Israel falls a little further down the rankings due to the increasingly harsh treatment of journalists in the Palestinian territories. The way things are going, in a few years time, Israel will be as bad as North Korea.

Where did North Korea place? But its disingenuous to compare Israel and North Korea. North Korea is of the chart when it comes to oppression. Most of Israels neighbours are trying to/have tried/subscribe to getting rid of Israel as a country. There is bad on both sides in this conflict not all on Israel

A "deplorable" 112th? It's not good, to be sure, but guess which culture's countries are virtually all lower on the list?

It's always a good idea to get the data behind the outrage before going off on yet another "Israel is evil" rant.

RWB 2013 report, illustrated world map

Does anything jump out at ye? To me, some things sure did ...

    114 United Arab Emirates
    123 Tajikistan
    128 Afghanistan
    131 Libya
    134 Jordan
    136 Morocco
    138 Tunisia
    139 Indonesia
    141 Oman
    144 Bangladesh
    146 "Palestine"
    150 Iraq
    154 Turkey
    158 Egypt
    159 Pakistan
    160 Kazahstan
    163 Saudi Arabia
    164 Uzbekistan
    165 Bahrain
    169 Yemen
    170 Sudan
    174 Iran
    175 Somalia
    176 Syria
    177 Turkmenistan

cyberhog, this is getting ridiculous now. I suggest you get yourself a blog or something.
You aren't posting these threads for debate, you just want to have another anti-West (mostly anti-Israel) rant.

You conveniently left out (like you do with all of your rants) some key information. The methodology used for this index has changed this year.

Until this year, Reporters Without Borders gave separate rankings to Israel inside the Green Line (pre-1967 borders) and to the occupied territories. While Israel inside the Green Line was ranked relatively high (up to 40th place), Israel beyond the Green Line was ranked 150th. The combination of the categories helps explain why Israel was ranked so low this year.

Perhaps if you are so concerned about press freedom, maybe you should be drawing more attention to the Arab world instead of a progressive, modern country like Israel?

This is, as has been pointed out, an extremely disingenuous claim, and a change in the methodology of press freedoms ranking does not warrant a Politics thread.
