Yeah - and who was it that was bouncing and sprinting off at the end?

Ah that was nothing compared to the pace increase when I told you I had tea and kit kats waiting in the house....so glad I didn't say it earlier or I'd have needed St. John's Ambulance:D

    Great running by the way!

    Monday 18th Feb
    Rest day

    Tuesday 19th Feb
    4 miles at 7:40/mile.

    Wednesday 20th Feb
PMP run - 8 miles @ 8:01/mile. Very steady times and comfortable throughout.

    Thursday 21st Feb
6 miles @ 9:00/mile. Nice recovery run. Really loosened out the legs.

    Friday 22nd Feb
Rest day. No cross training. LSR planned for next day.

    Saturday 23rd Feb
15 mile LSR with Dilbert75. Plan was to run the 15 miles at about 8:30/mile pace. In the end the average pace was 8:26/mile...so not so bad at all.

A tough little track to be fair. I completely understand where Dilbert75 gets his great endurance from when I came face to face with the hill steep incline climbing wall that he runs on his 18k run...its an absolute monster! As always, great to have a running mate:).

Felt ok when I got home but that was to change:mad:.

    Sunday 24th Feb
Complete write-off. Had planned an 8 mile run but that's not happening.
I'd be pi$$ed off if I had the strength to be.

The last 24hrs have been awful. Have not been able to keep anything down, or in, since about 3 yesterday. I'm in ribbons today....Water will not even stay in me. Going to try some electrolytes to see if they will help any.

    WTD 33miles
    YTD 234miles

+1 - and you should know I'm now going to be in trouble with Mrs D - she's convinced, from the fact I brought you up that hill, that I'm trying to kill you.

For the record - I'm not.

Sorry to hear that upthe19th, don't worry about the missed miles, you're absolutely flying it... A lsr at 8:26 pace? I am mega impressed! Hopefully it's just a 24 hour bug. Rest up and don't rush back to running, better to get over your bug 100% first.

:D. Nah! You can tell Mrs D that you are entirely blameless. I've been burning the candle at both ends of late.

Took a Dioralyte and I'm starting to feel a bit more human.

I hope to do that hill with ya a few more times...I'll be glad of it on race day.

Lol - I was out this evening and covered some of the ground we ran on Saturday (though not that section). Was thinking back to the hill and the conversation leading up to it:

    UpThe19th: slow back a bit, we're at 8:10/mile
    D75: don't worry - that'll fix it
UpThe19th: we're going up there? Ah Jesus C...

Decent session enough tonight. Was happy with the times but more so with the fact that I'm getting a little bit more steady and consistent with them.

    Times were:
    8:30, 6:55, 7:41, 6:59, 8:01, 7:13, 8:04, 7:10, 8:00, 8:31.

    It's a start anyway.

Thanks man. Tonight may it have been a bit soft considering I was averaging about 7:08 for 10k.

Anything under 1:35 I'd be happy with but the lower the better.

I've 6 more wednesday sesssions to do between now and then. I won't tie myself to a time. If I can go lower I will. It's a goal race and I owe that course a whipping after last year.

No running again. What a day. Started well but ended with first aid. Nothing too serious. Could have been way worse. Me favourite jeans could be shagged though.

Will have 7 days on the trot now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,724 ✭✭✭Dilbert75

Don't like close calls - usually only luck saves you from disaster.

Wouldn't be too worried about missing one or two runs - you've been horsing into the miles lately so a bit of a break is no harm. I'd plan on one or two days rest in the next week. No point ending up sick or injured trying to catch up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 741 ✭✭✭upthe19th

Fair point. The runs will be easy enough though so should be ok. 2 sessions will be the only tough ones.

    HM Session (No.2)

Finally got to do this tonight. The plan was to make it tougher than last week and push it a bit. The same 10 mile route as last week. This week's session would be approx. 3 minutes quicker over the 10 miles.

    The plan was:

    1 mile @ 8:00/mile
    4 x (1 mile @ 7:00/mile, 1 mile @ 7:30/mile)
    1 mile @ 8:00/mile

    Mile splits were:

    8:01, 6:56, 7:26, 7:01, 7:34, 7:11, 7:38, 7:12, 7:19, 8:04.

Very similar times in places. Overall pace for the 10 miles was ~7:26/mile down from ~7:43/mile last week. It was tough but not crazy tough.

Reward: Home-made taco fries and chocolate milk....savage.
