both stations are known for buying popular english drama/soaps but why has no one ever bid for Doctor who?

was it shown on its first run or has it never happened?

Would it be that most people who would be into it, would've already seen it on BBC?

TV3 showed seasons 1 and 2 ('new' series that is) during 2007. IIRC it was originally Saturday evenings and then ended up around 23:00 on a Thursday night. These would have been at least a year old then and don't believe they went beyond this.

Kind of surprised they never received more attention from the Irish stations, given the amount of other UK stuff that's silmucast.

Anyone know if the classic series was ever shown by RTÉ back in the day? (i.e. when it would have been new as opposed to a re-run).

That was a very haphazard run of Doctor Who, in 1999 around the time they were about to change over to being TG4 and were introducing more English lanaguage programming into the schedule. As I recall they changed the schedule around with alarming regularity (making a serial impossible to follow), missed episodes, and aired episodes out of order. The biggest biscuit they took was to air an episode of the Monster of Peladon where they should have aired the corresponding part of the Curse of Peladon! Similarly named stories yes but two years apart, with different companions and even different title sequences! They got as far as season 10 and then dropped it.
