Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yep own well. Very hard water rots out any copper

GG I wouldn't worry hugely, at least enough time for retests. But the cynic in me says it's to keep us on our toes ha. Other problem with the TBC is its very awkward to test for supposedly, and I've heard it's very sensitive to things like the milkman leaving the sample up on the dashboard, or letting a bit of dirt in the sample jar etc. In any case defo don't worry about it yet, sounds as if you are doing as much as you can within your own control.

Know one or two with uv treatment systems.

Had them on one of the farms in Nz we still had to treat the water with hypo for the final rinses due to ecoli in the water, never effected the tbc tho just wouldn't pass dairy assurance inspection

We took 3 water samples, at well, water after rinsing Parlour and water after bulk tank final rinse. Well water showed up contamination. Rinse cycle of the bulk tank was where I was getting caught. Parlour doses with peracetic acid on final rinse, that was clean.
I put in the UV and a auto dose pump for rinse cycle of bulk tank.
The uv probably would have fixed the problem on its own, I"d say. The UV light cost about €500 fitted

If you've washed out and changed everything - descaled ect , maybe it's time to by- pass the plate cooler see wether you get an improvement -

    Nope..
There "should" be no reason to wash it out.. Most I've seen washed were contaminated with milk from a split milk liner, then the milk gets drawn up through the pulsation and over time will colinate the vacuum line with nasty stuff indeed..

An area that's often overlooked by lesser servicemen is the sanitary jar and the vacuum line from the receiver jar over to the sanitary jar..

Vapor from milk will condense in this line and over time it can become quite contaminated indeed, also if for whatever reason the receiver overflows the sanitary jar will need cleaning.. Some plants are very prone to this and yet some seem to remain clean..

If its easy, just strip down the line and sanitary jar to investigate, give it all a good wash and rebuild. Takes no time and I've often seen it solve the problem of yo-yo TBC results.

When we were milking cows years ago, I remember my dad going out for the cows in spring time with Mag bottles in his coat pocket "just in case"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,493 ✭✭✭Greengrass1

Going around like a blue arsed fly this morning getting as much jobs done as I can for the weekend.
After setting up 10 wires so dad has no excuse not to "just let the cows off"
Calving pens cleaned out and rebedded
Calf pens all cleaned out and bedded ready to go.
Only extra things he should have to do is milk drop the wires and feed calves

Ive a discussion group meeting tomorrow morning which I want to get to so won't have that much time tomorrow

not unusual if its clean as there should be noting but air in there. need to be carefull if washing the vacuum line some of the newer machines that you don't flood the vacuum line as it can damage the pulsaters afaik

Tie her up good and tight in parlour
When teat has stopped bleeding super glue it and wrap teat up in gauz.

Stick a mastitis tube in her if you can

Hypericum-calendula cream. You'll get it in a health food shop - really good for healing and antibacterial too -
