Point of Sale - Software system

A friend of mine runs a small store and she has always issued hand written receipts and invoices but she now wants to move to a more integrated system like you'd see in bigger stores.

Basically what she is after is a software system where you could have your own product at your own price and have customer accounts also, allowing her to issue invoices, receipts etc.

I am thinking also of maybe an App for an iPad might suit also but it would have to be cloud based for fear of an iPad theft and customer accounts etc.

If anyone know something like this it would be great as she is not looking for something which will costs thousands like these inevitably do. Just something to allow her to track sales, customers and basically get away from the old invoice book and paper and biro.

Any iOS apps for this are going to be just as expensive as running POS software on the PC, realistically. Look at Inuit - their website, and through the appstore. They do Quickbooks and a lot of other accounting software for business.
