Gaming Desk / Chair

Hi all,

I'm moving into my new home shortly.

I have my head wrecked the last week trying to search for a comfortable chair for P.C. / Console and also a desk.

I typically play sitting upright for some reason I can't concentrate if I sit back so I need something that supports my back. I will purchasing a new monitor coming closer to the move.

Has anyone any suggestions of where to buy and what to buy or does anyone have pictures / Ideas on there own setups?

Desk was only £55, really happy with the quality, very struddy (Have it like 15 months now, moved several times etc, still solid). Chair was free, got it from my old job when we were clearing out offices.


TBH tho, it depends entirely on your budget and space. If i'd a bigger budget/More time i'd probably have just built my own desk and got one of those massage chairs.

It's a tidy setup, what's the matt thingy on the desk? Looks handy! I don't specifically have a budget but I'm not willing to pay over 800 beans for an office chair Creamy :P

I'm in a bit of a situation, basically I'm bulding the house myself so this room is specifically for this reason. I intend on getting a lazyboy or something for the 60 inch plasma (mwuhahaha!). HDMI will be ported through the wall so I will be able to use this for the P.C. also as they will both be in the same room.

For online gaming I find sitting upright at a desk is way better.

Probably one of the larger style mouse mats, specifically for gaming and the like. Size means the mouse is less likely to go over the edge to mess up your aim :pac:

Its a boogie bug XL mousemat, dont think they make them anymore but you can get similar ones handy enough. Great for anyone that plays games with a low mouse sensitivity.

I just picked up this chap from Ikea on Saturday, €130 including the armrests. I needed a new chair for the home office but had to have one with good back support and that makes you sit properly upright (not slightly leaning back like most chairs). It was the best of the chairs there and wasn't completely mangled by the great unwashed.

I'd definitely recommend you try before you buy if possible, finding a suitable chair is a very personal thing imo.

I've not had any problems with it. However, they do sell a floor protector separately should you wish to make sure it'll be ok.

Not to be picky or anything about the chairs posted ....BUT.... if you plan on doing any long-term PC gaming, they are not the type you should be buying.
The closest to the correct type is Magills.
The reason for this is arm positioning to avoid Carpal Tunnel and Ulnar nerve entrapment, which leads to numbness in your baby/little fingers.

There are guides as to the correct way to sit when at a keyboard.
You want to have your elbow near a 90 degree angle, and your forearm straight up to your keyboard.
This is why you need proper "horizontal" arm rests on your chair, preferably with adjustable heights to fit your desk as needed.

I know the above is long winded, but I worked at a desk for 4 years, and then playing PC at home, I now have Guyons Canal Syndrome (nothing serious, some of you PC gamers probably have it too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guyon%27s_canal_syndrome ) , so I do take extra care.

I use an exercise ball, costs less than €15 and is going to do you way more good in the long run if you sit at your desk for long periods of time.

Got one at Christmas and was skeptical at first, couldn't go back to a desk chair now. It's impossible to sit back on so its good for your posture as well.

it's not bad, you can sit on it for hours gaming and not feel uncomfortable, it's 3-4 years old with heavy use and still holding up

I have this desk in black. Great desk. Very sturdy and there's a cubby hole down the back to tidy away your cables.

The chair I got is from Ikea but its no longer for sale. Malkolm I think it was. I had gone through 2 argos chairs before hand, never going near them again for furniture.

Same situation here, working in the office then home. I try not to marothon game so may not be as applicable.

Just to note, I'm trying to steer clear of Argos stuff, as I have one from it and it gives me a pain in the arse

Interesting. Could you describe a bit more how the forearm should be so as to not damage the ulnar nerve?

You want to have your upper arm straight down by your side nearly.
From there your forearm will be at a right angle and go nearly straight out.
Hopefully the arms on your chair can accommodate this and allow your forearms to rest on them.
Chair should be adjusted so that this is at desk height, when your forearms come off the chair, they are at the desk height and near the keyboard.

Might feel a bit strange at first, but it's helped me a good deal in recent times. If i play any other way I can get awful numbness (this usually sets in during sleep or near bed time)

Have this myself aswell, a fantastic purchase.

I just got an office tabletop in Ikea and four legs, and just made a desk. Its plain but the tabletop space is epic, the real estate is a big thing.

Total cost of the desk was about €19. If you have a strong wall, just buy the tabletop and get some heavy duty brackets to mount on, and you have a legless desk, with even better legroom etc.

Sorry about resurrecting this thread but want a gamer opinion, old chair clapped out and in the market for a new one, i posted in this thread before on a chair.


Anyone have any experience with Dx racer chairs? you probably saw them on live streams on twitch or starcraft competitions since they sponsor a lot of events

I quite like the stuff Need for Seat do and they're comparable to the DX Racer products. Don't have one myself, I got a chair from Viking Direct 7 odd years ago on sale that's served me very well.
