Hi, I've got a year old dobie and she's with us two months. I've started clicker training and its going great.
I'm eager to find places I can socialise with her without scaring the bejesus out of people [have already had a neighbour rant at me for having a dangerous dog :( ]

I'm in north county Dublin and I see there there's a fingal dog club but it seems to be about competing in agility/obedience

    Any tips much appreciated :)

Hi! Brilliant pic!!! The dog club in the National Showroom place in Cloughran does all kinds of things - not just obedience. They have agility training on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening which is GREAT for the dog & v good! They do it on a Sunday but that trainer is much more militant & not as much fun. You don't have to show your dog. & you don't have to be a member.

I would highly recommend also Dublin Dog Training - John Ward does agility at the estuary in Malahide & he is just fantastic - lovely crowd thre & they now do various competitions & occasional trips to events together - very welcoming & friendly too.

The kennel club also does dog trial training ; showing classes, a well as general obedience & competitive obedience. If that's your thing!!! They are a very nice crowd overall & I found them to be very helpful.

There is no agility training Tuesday or Wednesdays in the National Show Centre. It is on Sundays. For beginners it starts at 12.30 and I can assure you it is great and the trainers really know their stuff. The classes are great fun. The intermediate and competition classes are on earlier.

On Tuesday night you can attend socialisation classes which for very young dogs start at 7pm. There is a class for older dogs at 8. More advanced obedience classes also take place that you can work towards.

Classes are pay as you go. First class you pay a registration fee but after that I think its 5 euro per class.

I have a 4 months old crossbreed setter..
I don't know many people with dogs and when I bring him on walks not many dogs want to play where I live :(
So I've been at socialization classes with him for 5 lessons.
Now he goes to day care where he can socialize with dogs and I will do other training / agility when he will be older.

Don't want to spam but I've created a facebook page to find new dog friends (you can find it in my signature)... there are many people in this page but at the moment we never meet :(
I am willing to find friends for my dog, because my previous dog became aggressive around 1 year old and I don't want to do the same mistake!

For anyone with a Pug, theres a Pug Club every third Sunday of the month in Herbert Park in Ballsbridge. You can see a thread about it here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=80978715

Other dogs tend to tag along too :) My friend (Twee on here) brings her greyhound sometimes. A Schnauzer goes sometimes and I've seen a German Sheppard and some lil mixed breeds there :)

There has been almost 40 pugs there the last few times and they LOVE it :)

Hi jsabina, I'm a bit far away (in D16), and my lovely guy is in having his neutering done today and his second vax, so he'll be out of action for a week or so, but if you are ever in the mood to meet up after that feel free to PM me.

you can attend with them for training or you can drop them off for a day. Have heard very positive things from a few people about it.
    They are in D15

I bring my dog to Dublin Dog Training in Swords and we do the agility classes but my main reason for bringing her is to socialise in a safe environment - planning on starting my Dobie up there soon too! It's great for socialising and the agility is great fun. Love the pic op she's fab!!!

I am so glad I logged in (I thought I'd get email notifications of any replies but I didnt)

Recently , our dobie is becoming aggressive (barking growling) in the house when people come to the front door. She's in her crate but I think if I don't intervene soon ill have a difficult and untrusting dog on my hands
I believe it's all down to lack of socialising

It's great advice here, very happy with the replies, would love a meet up in malahide some Sunday if that's a regular thing. My dog is crazy for fetching/destroying tennis balls, she has bundles of energy and she loooooves other dogs!

Will look into the obedience classes too :)
    Thanks everyone!

Heres a link to the trainer. Used to bring my dogs there, trainer jenny hickey is great. You can email her for information or call up on sunday mornings at 11 and watch the class. Your dog will be in an environment with all kinds of dogs, great for socialisation. Theres 3 trainers there. Had a look in this morning whilst passing, shepherds, jackers, yorkies, poodles, collies etc.

I can't offer advice, but just wanted to tell you what a beautiful Dobie you have! :D

I'm a real Dobie fan having owned two when I was in London. My father also owned one. Wish we could have another, but my husband won't allow it, so we have a Shih Tzu instead, who is a petted, adored and spoiled little prince!
