Grand sweeping statements about a console that has never been played or reviewed are just crazy.
PS4 isnt backward compatible either and the second hand gaming issue was a demand by publishers so it will be pretty much the same on PS4.
How about people judge both consoles on their games in the weeks to come

Sony have confirmed they won't have always on DRM.

I don't buy or sell second hand. I can appreciate that devs need to get paid. I can appreciate that backwards compatability is not always possible.

The problem here is that full priced games will EXPIRE after a few years.

Explanation: the once every 24 hours authentication system means games that are no longer cost effective to maintain WILL eventually have their servers turned off. It has happened without exception to every single similar DRM system. It is inevitable.

    And I'm not buying it.

A leaked Microsoft image has surfaced online which could show some E3 surprises a little early...

Following on from the recent discovery that Microsoft has registered some new Halo domains comes a new leak, this time involving the company's possible E3 game reveals.

An E3 slate image has been posted on NeoGAF, and it clearly shows a few key titles, including Banjo Kazooie, Forza 5, Dead Rising 3, Quantum Break and Fable IV, alongside a very clear Halo: Spartan Assault logo, and another which just as clearly indicates the existence of Halo 5, suggesting that Spartan Assault will be a spin-off title rather than the next episode in the new Halo trilogy.

The post also lists a slew of other titles, including Crackdown 3, Witcher 3, Rainbow 6: Patriots and Mirror's Edge 2. Interestingly, it also mentions Killer Instinct, the future of which has been up and down a lot recently.

Finally, the post also mentions a line up of next gen titles from Capcom for all platforms, including the aforementioned Dead Rising 3, which will be exclusive to Xbox One, Dragon's Dogma 2 (PS4 exclusive), Marvel Vs Capcom 4, and Darkstalkers Reborn (Wii U exclusive).

You can see the full list in the link below, but don't forget, this is simply a rumour, and the original poster of the image even states that they cannot confirm any of the information. Still, a lot of the titles listed are big names which we expected to see re-surface with the new consoles, so you never know.

Was posted on reddit and people were saying it was shopped because of the Banjo Kazooie logo.

Product Overview: Available only for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, “Halo: Spartan Assault” is a new top-down action shooter that brings a “Halo” video game to touch-based devices for the first time in franchise history

    What a silly decision

Why do you say that? I don't have any intention of buying it... Though, I still haven't gotten Halo 4, so that isn't really saying much. The game is being developed by Vanguard Games, not the team who make the console games. It isn't going to be taking away from work on Halo 5, if that is what you were thinking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭FlyingIrishMan

Its not silly, its just them trying to milk the franchise for everything they can get.

Why are we judging this game purely because its a mobile game? We haven't played it, hell it could be really good!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,640 ✭✭✭Pushtrak

Honestly, whether it is good or bad is beside the point. I just see it as them wanting to support their platforms of Windows/Windows Phone and what better way than with a pretty big franchise under their belt.

Of greater significance is the fact that it could be their first true cross platform game. While they've already announced it'll be playable on Windows8 powered PCs, tablets and mobiles they've not said whether one purchase will cover all three of them though, that's going to be the real decider.

As for the game itself, well Vanguard made the rather entertaining (if shallow) twin stick shooter Gatling Gears so I imagine this will be somewhat similar albeit with a Halo skin.

Windows phone has what, 2% market share of smartphones? Just seems to me that not having it on Android and iOS seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot.

3.2% and rising. The point of this release, however, is not to sell units, it's to push their platforms.

I'm wiling to bet that the PS4 will be the same, if not worse.

Sony are renowned for wanting to keep others out/use their own format.
Even when it works against them.

Betamax/*Minidisc/DVF (Loads more) - All died because Sony were unwilling to share. The ones that shared became market leaders. Sony is on it's last legs, the only thing holding it up is the Playstation, and if they F*ck that up, God knows what'll happen to them.

*You could argue with minidisc's timing, but Sony not allowing any other Company to manufacture minidisc systems definitely didn't help.

You've got a bizarre idea on what Sony were up to with their own proprietary formats. They were desperate for these to become the standard. They needed for other companies to use them. That's where the big money is, the licensing. They weren't creating these formats for ****s and giggles. They wanted as many minidisc manufacturers as possible. Also porn won the vhs/beta battle.

Rumours emerging now that MS is having manufacturing issues with the esRAM.
Though, its from neogaf so it probably doesn't mean anything.

    You misunderstood.

When i said they were renowned for wanting to keep others out/use their own format, i meant (amongst other things) they wanted companies to use their format, but, by being contracted.

Unlike others who developed formats they allowed many Companies to choose to use them.

Sony in many cases outpriced their formats, e.g. Hi8/Digital8 - Hitachi were one of the few Companies to manufacture cameras that used them (Apart from Sony), and couldn't afford to. They got stuck with a big bill, while others used miniDV/DVC and didn't have the Sony costs.

Anyway, another time. It'd be impossible to go into it all here.

Has anyone heard any rumours that the Xbox one will be able to side Partition Windows 8?
It may have been mentioned here already, that you will (to an extent) be able to play or interact with some games from a Windows 8 tablet.

I know it is supposed to have 3 OS's, but i hadn't realised one of them may be a trimmed version of Windows 8 - or at least a filesystem that is near identical.

That could be good. It could also be terrible, as it may leave it wide open to a lot of attacks.

The three OS thing is a simple way of describing it - the 'Windows 8' OS and the Xbox OS are essentially running in two Virtual machines and the third OS is the Hypervisor that keeps the others running and manages communications between them.

Because most Hypervisors (even Microsoft's Hyper-V on which this third OS is based) need to try to be a Swiss-army knife type solution to take into account the various functions a computer can be used for, there are a lot of extra services and tools in there that must be generic.

However, Microsoft know exactly the functions that they will be using the other two OSes for so they have trimmed out a lot of the extra guff and only included exactly what is necessary for these two Virtual Machine OSes to work optimally (and to guarantee that the Xbox OS will always have an exact amount of RAM and CPU performance). Game developers must know this in advance for consoles and not have to worry about background apps or services.

The 'Windows' OS will be a cousin of Windows 8 - based off the same run time environment as Windows 8. Coding for it will be pretty much the same as coding for Windows 8, Windows RT or event Windows Phone 8. Indeed, many Windows 8 apps may end up being made available for it but may need to be modified (for Kinect, Controller and SmartGlass inputs). However, it is likely that the App Store model will be the only way to install anything on the 'Windows' OS, as Microsoft will lock that thing down much tighter than they did for the Windows-ish kernel on the original Xbox.

There's an interesting article on here that talks a bit about this. Best bet is that we will hear much more about it at the Microsoft Build event for Windows developers at the end of the month.

Him and a few other people in the press are saying that it has been cancelled. Probably won't be an official word from MS except to the press.

MS is on in the morning, Sony's is on in the evening.

Seems odd that the mainstream gaming media haven't said anything of this sort.

hopefully in a weeks time we'll have answers to some of the pressing questions at least. you'd imagine they'll at least be clarifying the price and their stance on DRM.

Yeah, it could not be true. All I know is that guy is a gaming journalist who got an email from "PR Agency" saying it was cancelled.

Is that your guess or where does it come from? I'd be fairly surprised if Final Fantasy 15 showed up; I figure they would want to focus on FFX HD and FF13-3
