Squatting shoes

I squat whilst wearing normal Nike trainers. We are not allows to squat barefooted in our gym. I've been told by others watching me in the gym that I seem to lean too far forward when squatting.

Truth is, when I get low, I feel stiff around the hips and can't drop any lower. I've started Yoga in the hope it will loosen me up. But, I was wondering if I need to wear proper shoes as well or are they only necessary for large weights? I was doing 100kg, but due to my poor form I'll be dropping back downa bit and then re-climbing.

Is there an alternative to the proper squat shoes or do they really make a differnce?

    Thanks,

They help compensate for ankle mobility issues. So if that's your weakeness, smash your calves with a foam roller, then mobilise joint and stretch calf.

maybe come way back down the weight, I am pretty powerful naturally through my legs but still only squat 60kgs, 3 sets of 8. but my aim could be different to yours, ie, I dont want bigger legs than what they are. 60kgs in full squat is more effective than 100kg with limited ROM of worse, bad form.sounds like your lower back could be under alot of pressure. make a conscious effort to keep the weight on your heels
