    Hello all,

Our dog gets very unhappy in kennels and even with plenty of walking and nice clean compartments, she gets bored and anxious and this makes her bite her paws.

We would love to find someone who would enjoy minding a dog for a few days in their own home. We would be happy to pay for this.

The person would need to have lots of experience with German Shepherds or a similar large breed. She is a lovely dog... very affectionate, well-trained and smart but unfortunately she's not good with cats and small dogs.

We live in Waterford but could travel a bit outside the county if we found someone who could help. If anyone would be interested, please pm me.

    Thanks.

Have you considered that being separated from you and in a strange place might cause the paw chewing, so that even being with a good dogsitter might still produce the same results - which could be embarrassing for the sitter as well as difficult for the dog.

It's a very good point looksee and we are very conscious of separation anxiety. There are times when separation is inevitable. It doesn't happen very often but when it does we want to make it as easy for her as possible.

She loves people and if she can get to know someone as a 'pal' and be with them in their home, being separated from us will be less stressful than if she is alone in a kennel. She is used to being in the house with people. In kennels, she is outside or in an outhouse which is extra lonely for her. Being surrounded by all the other dogs compounds this. I think, if she is not in this situation, she will be far less likely to be anxious or to bite her paws.

It would be great if we could find someone who loves dogs but cannot commit to having a dog of their own, who could get to know her and take her for short periods. If possible, we'd like her to get to know the person first on walks or short visits so that we know she is happy with them and they with her.

phelo, Precious Paws tends to have quite a few dogs staying in the house, I think. Otherwise it's a great service and would be ideal.
