Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So it appears the FG/Lab coalition for the best possible deal they could on Anglo debt.

Given the debt was originally burdened on the state by FF, FF voted for the IBRC Resolution bill, and had good words for the negotiations, does this really make FF look even more foolish and irrelevant to the Irish people?

How could FF have voted against the bill on Thursday morning, considering that the agreement clearly puts Ireland in a better position? The FF position has always been to seek a renegotiation, that became pretty clear soon after the promissory note was agreed in the first place. The promissory note was seemingly the best deal possible at the time, but I don't think anyone really thought that it was entirely satisfactory and accordingly a renegotiation was on the cards. Unfortunately for FF they had no mandate or credibility to push for a deal prior to the last election, and GE11 provided the government with the mandate necessary to really dive into the negotiation process.

FF would be more irrelevant if they were seen to be opposing things for the sake of it, like others. It hasn't been a good week for SF for example. You can get the sense of deflation from their TD's as the deal, in fairness to the government, does put us in a better position. There is still plenty of work to be done though, and the focus should be on convincing our EU partners of the need to grow our way out of this recession rather than cut our way out.

As a man once said "They haven't gone away you know."

Fine Gael are presently reminding people why they were driven to vote for the likes of Fianna Fáil. And like a broken record, the cyclical nature of Irish Politics will continue
